Let me clarify that. I know it's open to the public but there is no public access. You think the state and farmers squabbling will ever end? In Tennessee you can't deny access especially to the state, to their property.

To my knowledge Lakeview is privately owned now and has been for awhile now. The State claims that nobody will sell them a strip of land for access. Since the State took 71 acres of my land by imminent domain to build a 4 lane highway i have often wondered why they cannot get access to oxbows that way.

Kinda what I was thinking. If the state wants it they usually take it or force you to sell to them. But a gamewarden kinda gave me the impression that the lake was theirs but they couldn't access it because the land around it was private hunting club.
Probably not worth the effort since the influx of carp. Oxbow days are behind them. Tunica and Mellwood were great fishing holes back in the day. Now not so great.

My understanding is....some of the landowners and hunting club members are also politicians and members of the state legislature. Thats what i have always been told anyway.

Nobody has ever raised a big enough stink about it, I agree with Gomer it ain't worth the fight now. Just another example of BIG MONEY getting there way, and the little man can go pound sand!!!
There has been a lot of stink raised about it the past 10 years....but its a loseing battle.

Those guys are all millionaires
Those guys are duck hunters and tied into the "elite". Fishing there would be crap now anyways, If I had to guess. Originally (after the bait shop was flooded in 2011), there was a "pending" agreement for the public to access the boat ramp from March 1st thru October 1st, I believe it was. That was fine you want the winter for hunting no big deal. That was when some "stinks" were made, grumblings on the internet and so forth, maybe a letter to the MS Gov officials / Game Fish etc. I know this, when it comes to the common man, the guberment can do what he sees fit, when it comes down to the money men, then things can be over seen!!! Anyways, my :twocents on the subject!!
Yep those oxbows are ruined I tell ya

I live about 15 minutes from there, and it was a blow to me when it was closed to the public. The bream fishing was good, and the crappie was fair to good with a 10" MLL. After it closed, I went over and sat at the barricade next to the railroad tracks for a good while during prime duck and deer season. I never heard a shot at any time I went there on several occasions. If there ain't no shots, there ain't no ducks, OR there ain't no hunting going on. Who knows what is going on over there!:dono
If you look at it on google earth, there's a good sized building on the west side of the lake with a boat ramp. Wonder what's going on in there! MYSTERY!!
Not sure armyman, looks like a very nice house, it's been there several years. Also, if you noticed the only access road is coming off Lakeview Road, seems if the state or county wanted to play hardball (like the owners like to do) they could put a gate up just east of the tracks on Lakeview Road then, allowing them no access. What is with all those what looks like crates by the old ramp, looks like they scattered around what I would assume is the caretakers property north of the old ramp, by that old metal barn?
Get the "Landglide" app & you can c who owns what piece of property. You would be suprised at how the lines run...
Well dang, looks like they thought of that and bought that little strip just east of the tracks too. Nice app reb, thanks for pointing me to it, it's pretty neat!
Did see a good bit of land owned by the levee board just south of lakeview trailer park. Seems to me they could easily build a road to access that property, then a public access ramp?
They not gonna do it....state senators and congressmen are some of the owners
Too much power and money involved
I don't think the State has the money. Game & Fish is barely surviving on licence fees, etc.
Money talks where ever one goes.."Intentions" are just BS.. I'll bet if you got the CASH, you can get 'er dun..
If you could figure a way to make it a "tax write off", I'll bet they would listen! LOL!
Not with some of the state lawmakers owning lakeview Search back... thread about 8 years ago this same discussion...it tells all about it.
I can't find the thread I am talking about but I did find three pages of threads on lakeview if anyone is interested.....some of them talk about re-opening and some talk about closing. click here http://www.crappie.com/crappie/searc...d=21398208&pp=
Politics, Power, and Money rule! Always has...always will!
Here is a read with some info....http://www.crappie.com/crappie/missi...borrowed-time/
Well now that I know about the owners I'm doing a little digging. I'm finding some interesting stuff, seems they may not only be keeping the taxpayers out, there is a possibility that we are funding there little private paradise, to some extent via subsidies. Can't make any accusations yet, but I will keep looking into it.
Go get'em, Snubbys!
Lakeview is a dink hole.
I was always told the boys that own Kalb equipment were the fellas that bought Lakeview, they are big money
Money has nothing to do with getting a ramp. It's all about the politics. Some well placed politicians are owners in it so nothing is going to happen. Kick, cry and scream all you want. Those guys have untold millions invested in that land.
i was told by a warden once that the state knew that the land was/was gonna be for sale and they could have moved on it before the sale but didnt.
I always had good days on that lake. Caught a bunch of 1 1/2-2lb fish and a few that would go 3 right straight across from the boat ramp in that stump field.
