Chenille and SW Neck Hackle Storage

For some reason the USPS, Amazon, and others keep sending me supplies.

I decided to try so new storage ideas.

The 5x7 photo storage boxes that seem to be everywhere work great for the SWNH. I like it much better than baggies because it keeps the feathers from being bunched up and getting odd kinks, twists and curls. My local Meijer has a 6-box set in a box on sale for $8.39. Way better price than Amazon!

The Stanley Sortmaster box I had laying around in the garage is awesome for storing my Chenille.

That's where I'm at trying to figure out a good way to store cause my space as I'm sure a lot of guys are is very limited

I have a better idea. When that stuff comes, tie a couple of jigs and just send it on to me. you know those delivery guys will be back soon and you won't miss it.

Nice storage options ideas.

I have a couple boxes that I use for chenille. I put each color and sometimes I will have a few colors in one large bag, then I put the bags in the box. I know that I have more chenille than most since I also sell chenille, lol! However I am talking about the chenille I use to tie with. I have one box with Rayon, Nylon and New Age bags and then I have another box with Crystal in it and I also have a divider in that box and have Estaz in the other side of this box. I do have some other chenilles also and usually keep them in a smaller plastic box. These I buy as packs like Cactus, Crystal Antron, etc. Over the last 12 years or so I have collected a large number of different chenilles and some I hardly ever use just because I am ac creature of habit and seem to gravitate to the ones I like best. Also these last few types I keep in their own plastic bag so I can keep 3 or 4 of these bags in one plastic box.

Almost forgot the hackle. For what I use from is each color has a Qt. Zip Lock and inside that is the main feathers, a sandwich bag with extra V's, another small bag of the butts of the feather after the V's have been taken and if I happen to cut too many V's I have another bag for them.

My main chenille storage though is a little large and there is another cabinet with some in it as well.....

Yikes...is that what I have to forward to? Lol. I've got a question Skip since you mentioned them. I have started using feathers except marabou so unsure about the hackles, v's, butts and all that stuff. Is there a post that explains all of that? Thanks.

This one has a good bit and even the cutting of the hackle, but there is so much info about hackle I am sure not everything is in this. You mention the butt, I like to leave a little bit of good stuff some of the time on the butt. I save everything I think maybe I can use later on something? I am sure much of what I save is thrown away by many, but fly tyers know lot of small left over things can be very useful later. Just take a good look at the pictures of Blakemore's Slab Daddy Jigs, look close at the tail and you will see a few have tips in the tail, but many don't and that tail is made from using left over butts that they are selling, lol! Like one of the more popular jigs is the Gray Ghost and the real original Gray Ghost has not tip in the tail and looks like just using that I call the little V's. So the nk about what you throw in the trash and if it's something you think maybe you will use, maybe on a bluegill jig or fly you can use the shorter parts of any material that you don't use on a 1/16th oz jig?

Just saying, these butts also have a marabou type short barbules down there and that with a little of the straight barbules together, then take two of them combined can make a pretty nice tail!

Glad to see that we think alike. I have done many jigs off of the part of the hackle below the V's. They turn out really nice and the fish absolutely love em. It also appeals to my cheap side, not throwing anything out.
