I've been wanting to try Caney lake in the summer time but never have. Always stayed on the river or Darbonn lakee. I've fished it in the spring and done well. But looking for some advice on fishing it during the summer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe Pastor or Scrap iron can help you with this

I grew up down there but catch fish there now to save my life. You have to know where the tops are and I don't. Like 20 watt said pastor and scrap fish down there pretty often. My advise would be stay on darbonne unless u want to go skiing, then caney is your lake. Good luck.
I did good on the post spawn but always didn't do so hot during summer.i just want learn the summer bite to get away from people and have anothe lake close to home. I've heard stories from folks that catch in summer but it's a secret and I understand that.

I fish Caney every weekend and know where lots of tops are. This past weekend no keepers. Fished probably 15 hours total. The few I caught were in 20fow fishing 12-16ft deep with shiners. May try some more night fishing this summer. Been doing really well with quality fish up until this weekend. Good luck.

I do fish jigs some but favor the shiners. Catch some casting and counting jigs down to 10-12ft. Out from Smith Fork across from state park lot of tops and what they call the jungle lot of tops.
I usually did well in smith during pre spawn but that's about it. I really appreciate the help I plan on making some rounds by the state park and around Hancock and cypress. I figured places where there are fast depth changes I could probably find tops and do ok. Thanks again for the helpQuote:

Smith Fork and Smith Branch not the same. Smith fork on Jonesboro side about halfway up lake on left. Northstar Drive crosses end of it. Lot of humps and ridges and tops about 500 yds out toward state park. We have camp on Pebble Drive. I'm one of the old farts with a stick steer. Good luck.
I got ya. Yea I know where that is now had look at the map to refresh my mind on it. An older friend of mine lives on the lake up smith branch. Well I surely hope to see u around out there. I'll be in an alumaweld consol steer boat. If it's sunny I'll probably blind u with my bald head coming by.

I wanted to thank you for the info you gave me. I took off work this weekend and took the wife. Was a little windy but nothing I wasn't used to. Picked a few up around where u said try and I hit another spot I thought to be appealing and caught some as well. 20-22 FOW fishing 16-19' all on shinners tried a few jigs and a few jigs tipped with shinners and nothing.Quote:

I fish mostly across lake from state park toward Smith Fork . Look for brush tops 18-20 fow. Bite is really slow. Best on shiners which are hard to keep alive right now.Quote:

the few times I went there in the summer several people were fishing where the Pipe line crosses the lake
In this heat you would have to continually tend to the ice replenishing and they will still die......too much effort taking away from time fishing.....imho...well opinion any ways:)Quote:
