Hi guys & girls ! I have been using Hi- Vis Stren for many years . 2,4, & 6 lb. yellow. I want to try the Nanofil Hi-Vis yellow in 2lb. or 4lb. for casting small jigs. Before i purchase some, I would like some imput from you people that use it. Thanks, Don.
I can only tell you from my own experience. The #2 & #4 Nanofil is almost impossible to tie a knot into, without it failing. I spent the better part of the 2014/2015 season trying my best to use both 2# & 4# tests on several of my panfish rods. Can't tell you how many jigs I've lost due to knot failure. And I've been tying knots for over 50 years. I tried using fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders, using the Alberto knot and/or Uni-Uni knot. They all broke on a crappie hitting my jigs. Tried tying it direct with a Palomar & Trilene knot. They all broke on a crappie hitting my jigs. Sound repetitive?
I do hope you have a better experience with Nanofil than I have had, but I seriously doubt that you will. All my rigs are now filled with Fireline Crystal 2# test main lines with a 4# test fluorocarbon leader. Last season, none of my knots failed. I have great casting ability with this line and the sensitivity has to be felt to be appreciated. I use the fluoro leaders mainly for abrasion resistance and as a shock absorber. It works for me.
I have been using it(6#) on a couple of jigging rods with a fluorocarbon leader joined by a uni to uni knot for several weeks now as well as a couple of casting setups. Absolutely no complaints, haven't had any knot failure. I have almost wore the paint off one jighead on one of the jigging rods, caught several limits of fish along with some bass and catfish as well by accident. I don't know maybe it is a problem unique to the 2# and 4#. I am using 6# Nanofil to 6# Seagar fluorocarbon and try to make at least 6 wraps on each Uni knot.
Have read several complaints about it though so must be something there, just haven't had trouble myself. I have a spool of the 4# I guess I need to try and see if I have trouble with it.

I use Nanofil on my spinning rods. Knots tied directly to lures fail badly, but with a leader tied with a double uni, I've had good luck. Casts well and is strong and durable.
I use 2 and 4lb Nano and I'm liking it, but it comes with baggage. It has no memory, casts like nothing I've ever used, has no stretch, but also has absolutely no abrasion resistance. Hook a fish deep and the line go across its teeth when tight and say goodbye to that fish, I use a 4lb clear Stren leader and those problems went away. I've caught 3 1/2 lb cats and 3lb LMB on the 2lb, and haven't been using it very long, but I'm convinced that I'll use it for a long time to come.
I've use it on one rod for 3 years with no problems. If your read on the box you can only tie a double Palomar knot or it will cut it's self into. You need to re-tie ever so often because it is so strong it will cut into it's self. It is very sensitive and as someone as already mentioned is has no stretch so back you drag off. It is more expensive but last a lot longer than other lines. Just give it a try and see for you self.

i have very good results with the 6lb but as others have said the 2 and 4lb is hard to deal with. it is literally like trying to tie a knot with a piece of spider web but i have no issues with the 6lb. my line of choice though is 2# and 4# stren magnathin.
You'll love nan o fil once you adjust to it. As mentioned; standard knots are problematic. As Rockmike said; use a leader. The uni to uni works great. Just pull it tight slowly. If you just have to tie diectly to the jig, use a double polamar and make sure the line doesn't cross in the hook eye or it will cut itself.
Another adjustment you'll have to make is with your hookset. Regular snap sets will most likely result in a lost fish due to hook rip out. Learn to
just sweep your rod up and keep reeling.
Been using nan o fil since it first came out. Love the stuff. Just don't wrap it around your hand to pull a snagged lure free. It will cut like a sharp knife.

We live in the fly fishing capital of the world.nanofill is like fly line.floats ,no stretch ect.start out with tying a knot in the tag end of your line after running through your line tye,jig eye,crankbait eye ECT twist 8 times run back through loop in line,important wet line before pulling tite.we use it for all our fishing like the clear mist.like it the best.have used the high vis.like the clear mist the best.the clear mist looks white on top of the water.disappears in the water.hope this helps.not trying to sell.good fishing.
I have been using Nanofil for almost two years. First spool was 12# test ,didnt like it went to 8 better, 4# even better Not sure about the 2# yet may try it though. The knots don't seem to be a problem to me but the 4# is a just a little tougher to tie than the larger dia is. I like the no stretch and smooth casting. I think it takes some getting used to it, at least it did for me
Forgot to add I like the clear mist better than the hi vis. The hi vis seems to fade some after a while.
Just like others posting I swear by 6# and wouldn't mess with 2 or 4. It's pricy so I fill half the spool with mono then follow with the Nanofil.

I detest this line. My step dad is one of those guy who has to have the new best thing. When he lived in TN it you can buy any color as long as its green. Then it was Mr Crappie hi vis yellow, and now its nanofil. :puke Nanofil bud! Bud!! Bud!!! Bud! See what I'm saying. Know what I mean. I'm telling you bud. Nanofil.
I've used clear monofilament my whole and I've caught just as many fish.

A few years ago my local Academy store had clear mist 4 lb Nanofil on clearance for $2.99 a spool. I have around 15 spools left and I love the stuff. I did take me me a while to find the right knot for the stuff. Normal knots would slip like crazy because the stuff is so slick. I finally found the perfect knot from a guy on Youtube and have no problems since. It's thin and cast like a dream. No stretch makes it even better. I simply love the stuff.
Wish I had been at our Academy during that sale. I wasn't able to get but 4 spools. Love the stuff.

Here’s the thing about lines. You need different lines for different situations. I am sure that a lot of folks on this site only fish for crappie. Even with that unless they only do one style of fishing they will use more than one type of line. I am not a crappie fisherman....I catch my fair share of crappie but I am an avid UL angler fishing for Smallies....crappie....Gills....white bass.....shell cracker......and trout. Name a brand and type of 2# test line and I’ve probably used it......used a lot of lines many do not know about unless they order direct from Japan or Europe. NanoFil had a place on my reels for about a year solid when it first came out. I still use it on a bluegill only setup with an XUL rod that I use in lakes that have a bunch of 6-7 inch Gills. It allows me to cast a 1/64 ounce Trout Magnet a country mile....and whether you like the line or not one can’t knock the sensitivity of it. Today was my last day to fish for 2017. My intended target was bluegill on the bottom in 15 feet of water. I was using an “Ester” monofilament. It is 1.4# test polyester line that is like mono.....with a couple of exceptions....it has zero stretch.....and it sinks. But after a few fish I got into white bass and switched to a reel that had SOS 2# test line on it and proceeded to catch 150 of them. The 1.4# test line with no stretch is not going to work with white bass....I had a reel with 2# test NanoFil on it but it was not best choice for what I was doing either....the SOS 2# test copolymer was just the ticket.....lots of stretch. But it was the ticket for today.....next time out the ticket might just be NanoFil...or another type of line.

I have 6lb Nano on ALL my reels. Best live Iv ever used and Iv used them all. I use a synch knot, but you must tie a square knot wrapped at least 3 times in the end of the line first because it will slip out without it.

IMO nanofil is probably the best line ever made for spinning reels! The the line just glides off the spool! Cast one time with your spool filled with nanofil and you’ll notice the difference right away. It casts twice as far as mono and most braids. I would not suggest you use the one or two pound line though. You will lose fish with line that light. I use 8-10 lb test in the hi-vis yellow most times without a leader and my catch ratio has not gone down. It’s actually went up.
I use a double Palomar knot and don’t have any problems at all. The thing with nanofil is it will fray and weaken at the knots. You really need to check it often for nicks and retie often after catching a few fish or so. To me it’s well worth any extra cost! I see Sufix has came out with a nanobraid line that might be worth checking out too.
I agree with crestiner08 Fireline has no knot problems, no stretch, casts a long way,great sensitivity, I use 6lb. some days may only lose one jig fishing brush tough, pulls jig free.Put cheap mono backing on and about 50yds.fireline use it a year or two then crank that line onto another reel use the good back half.Cheapest line I can use!
