Just wait until you catch your first fish on it. Instead of calling it the grey ghost you need to call it the "holy smoke".
"gene"
Nice...that jig is (literally) close to my Heart.....
You did good!!
Well, shoot, now I'm going to have to give it a try. I've had a fly tying kit for some time and have just never taken the time to get started.
A lot Prettier than my first Jigs.... I sent some of my early jigs to FisherVet--- they came apart in the water --- I used Glue on the Thread like I saw on u-tube but the hair and feather came apart not the wrap at the head..... After that I use glue all the way through each step to the finish... I have just began using Silicone rubber [ Legs]
Honey Hole and Toledo Tackle have Tying Supplys in W. Monroe
What does it take to get started tying jigs? A fly tying kit and some YouTube videos to get you started?
That's a nice one MO. Ya takin orders? What is the purpose of the red hook?
I bought a vise/material from Cabelas....material from Grandpa bobs also
No JR, Mo will need a lil time before selling.....gotta field test and make them "Mo" better......no special purpose of red hook

OK I'll bight when you decide to start doing this professionaly and quit your job to fill all your orders put me down for 5 grey ghost and 5 d'arbone jigs, blue body with chartuce, you know the green tail. Love the red cickle hooks. Have been stuck in the house also burning up the debit card on fle bay getting every thing I need to start trolling cranks. A man can always have another bad habit. LOL
Awesome looking jigs! I just recently started tying a few to the time while I've been out of town working. Great way to pass the time and contribute to the jig box.

Nice. I have tied a lot of variations of the ghost with various materials. They work great in some waters, not so well in others. But it's fun to tweak the jigs, just to see what will make an improvement.
One great tip (I hope) was on crappie.com the other day. One of the guys mixes his powder paints to get just about any color he wants for his heads. I'm definitely going to give it a try.
There are days when color and materials don't make a difference, whether you're slammin' 'em or striking out. But sometimes, subtle differences can really turn them on. Although, in my experience, technique makes a much bigger difference than color or materials.
You've probably already found that catching fish on something you made yourself adds a lot to your fishing experience.
These are some of the new jigs I tied with the rubber legs.

FoL, Those are some very interesting-looking jigs. I'm guessing that you fish the weighted spinner jig on the bottom, with the non-weighted jig tied above?
The dark bodies look like peacock herl. I have found that the herl produces a LOT more fish than chenille or yarn, although the herl tears up a lot quicker. Fortunately it's an easy re-wrap and herl is pretty cheap. BTW, an orange head/peacock herl body/pheasant tail has been my best overall producer.
Bigsky ,,, I stop and sometimes check bird Roadkills --- Peacock no --- Redheaded woodpecker was used . When I first made the unweighted critter bait was to try dock shooting to hang in the water with a slow sink rate.. the spinners are summer time baits that are fished faster.. I like to use Fas snaps above the bottom jig that allows changing the top bait without rerigging till I find what works
Looking real good! :ThumbsUp
If you have a BASSPRO in your neck of the woods, they quite often have free fly tying classes. That's where I got started here in OKC The guys here were extremely helpful in getting me started. We met once a week and tied trout flies, which are MUCH more complicated than tying crappie jigs. Basspro provides all of the materials (hackle, biots, rubber, bodies, hair, etc.) free.
