Burns - Friday

Well dad wanted to go to the burns to catch some goggle eye and sacs. So we went out Friday morning and fished from 7:30 to around 11 when the rain and errands ran us off. Caught 10 Sacs, 10 goggle eyes, 5 bream and 3 bass. Well got back to dads to clean them and my nephew calls and wants to go to the burns when he gets off work that afternoon. Told him, I would see if I got all the errands ran and a pass from the misses! Well everything worked out and we fished from around 4:45 to 7:45 and caught 9 bass that we kept. All in all a good day.

I caught all of my fish that morning on a jig that I tie and dad caught most of his on a jig that Jlaughlin ties (bumble bee). Didn't get a picture of Dads but here is a picture of mine, I think I may start calling this one the "Burns Special"

JR, yes it has quickly become my go to jig for the burns. I have caught bream, goggle eye, sacs, bass and even caught a bar fish on it Friday! Funny thing is that it came off of one that Jlaughlin ties that is just the red and black and I added in the orange and it kind of looks like a crawfish now and they seem to love it.

As for the flower, Lotus is probably the correct name but we always just called them chick a pen flowers. The center section dries up and has the seeds in it. You see a lot of the dried ones in Flower arrangements. My aunt would crack the seeds and eat them from the dried ones.

Shadow, you just reminded me of the another name for them. You are correct chick a pens is used a lot around here. There are places around here that people fight over them. The seeds that develop in the pods are good to eat and florist love them to put in flower arrangements.
