Black Squirrel Tail

Having a hard time finding black squirrel tail. Anyone know where I can get some. Thanx, Pop

I trade Mepps 150-200 gray and fox squirrel tails for their lures every year.Through the years they have given me a lot of their lures.Could you just dye those black?...That may be what you are buying anyway.

A natural black squirrel is what I would want as apposed to dyed. I know in Northern NY they have black squirrels - I would love a bunch of tails and a pelt or three.

I am aware of the species.Trying to find a supplier may be an uphill battle. Cabelas,Do-it, or Bass pro is where I usually buy dyed deer or squirrels tails.

After looking around for you I think you should settle for dyed Black tails as I do not see any natural for sale and if you find them I bet they will cost a lot! I know WAPSI has dyed Black tails and probably should try them. I also know Robert at Crazy Angler has WAPSI stuff so give them a look.

Hunting season is closed for this year, This fall I could get you a five gallon bucket full of them they are all over the place here in northern MI.

Nice jig! I have a yard full of Gray Squirrels and at times there will be as many as 12 in the yard at one time. Also have a lot of their tails, lol! Also have bought some dyed ones, but no Black. I see there is a big difference from one to the other as far as color. Even have one that is Red. See Picture below.

You can buy the whole squirrel natural black and use the tail and cut the pelt into zonker strips
