Anything negative about them? 2003 21xl magnum with an evinrude 225.. I know the big evinrudes can be troublesome but seems to be a pretty nice boat for the price

I ran a 20' 2001 model Stratos for 9 years. Absolutely no complaints. It was powered by a 225 Yamaha V-max. Back then they were well built heavy boats, tough as nails with a fast hull and great ride. That's a great model boat you are looking at, but I would be very skeptical of that evinrude. I've heard nothing but bad things about them. My advice is to look around more for something with a Yamaha, Honda, or Suzuki motor.

Great boat with great reviews like Fessh's. Most I have seen them motors are money pits to say the least especially if they been run hard. Lower units weak and very expensive to replace or repair. Like Feesh said keep looking. Your boat is out there.

It has a new lower unit on it. Everything I've been reading about the 03's dont make em sound too bad.. I have read the omc ficht motors were junk but mainly the 150/175's. I'm going to go look at it Saturday anyhow and see how it runs out anyhow. We all know the guy it belongs to.

I have had real good luck with the older / earlier? model Johnson/Evinrudes, latest being a 90 model 200, parts are available & reasonable

Love stratos. Hate omc.
The Stratos is one heck of a fishing platform, you will be pleased with the way it fishes. Sounds like you have done some research on the motor, if the compression is good and you feel confident with it go for it. Fact is, used is used and it's a crap shoot to say the least.
I have a 1989 289 V & have loved it, best ride in rough seas & it has been in some pretty rough stuff, they are heavy tho, weight it, you would be surprised!!

All cylinders are 125+ on compression

Agree with John (Rees) in this, you take into account everything in life is a possible crap shoot, just make sure if it does turn out to be a dud completely, you can refit power wise. Statos is a good boat, I'm looking myself, good luck ducker!!
Any idea on speed it will run??? They are built to turn RPMs, 100 hrs or 500 hrs just don't mean a ton. Saw you said the compression is 125+ but are they all like 132 to 125, wouldn't want them varying much more than that. Heck, you're a mechanic, why am I telling you this.
If that's the boat I think your taking about it will run high 70's with the right driver in the seat. It will fly even for that motor.
I had my old one at 80-82 mph a couple of times when the conditions were right. I could put it in the mid 70's any time I wanted.
Rees is right, they cruise at 50 mph
