I don't know how pretty it has to be but I bet that one will catch a bream or two.
Looks good
Thanks Matt for the post and pic.
Shu, I don't see anything wrong with that. I'm willing to bet that you'll put several in the boat with it. My first one got to talk with a razor blade and start again.
That one would catch fish on my home lake for sure!
It will kill' em ! A black gnat with a touch of red is awesome . You are only missing the red tip . The slow fall is he ticket . Four rivers bait co. made the best store bought . Betts made a good one as well but the feather they added was contrary as it did not want to sink . You have a winner there .
Looks good

Bet it catches some Blue Gils for sure! Good job!
I also have tied some like this before and know they worked. I just used dubbing and a saddle hackle. Think mine generally not as good as yours, lol! I do think that I can do better now than I did back then though, lol! It's not as easy as it looks, really!

Tried to use foam for the first two resulting in the pile of 'stuff' cut off the hook with razor knife, the second pic is actually the first finished one, do like the crystal chenille but will try the foam again. Thanks for the encouragement. Haven't wet a hook in a while but grandkids and summer vacation are near.--shu
A great looking bream killer it will be, very nice.
Hey I have made the foam one before too and even have some cutters for some types of ants, but you can just cut a strip, kind of angle the cut on each end and a flat nose cut across the tip of the ends. Tie it and fish it
I am telling you, mine were worse than yours and it was not near long enough ago that I can't say I was a beginner then, lol!

Make sure you post a picture of the first one you think is good. It'll have to be pretty awesome because this one looks really good to me. I'm in total agreement with Skip.
My best friend from up in Montana got a 6.5 pound westslope cutthroat on a size 22 ant that looked a lot like yours. He just knew the size 22 wouldn't hold, and he started shaking as soon as he released the trout back into the high mountain lake.
Got some better foam and tied a few this morning but my fingers weren't happy with the hackle, but this is the result for now.--shuAttachment 266638
I believe those will do. Good work Shu.
Each of those has a distinctively different look. I'm betting they'll all work. Nice job.
Those are real nice, good job.
Hey Shu, did you get to try the ants out yet? I don't get to fish this weekend but if I sneak out I'll be chasing gills.
They look good and should work fine. You keep saying you don't like the hackle, are you using a dry fly type hackle or strung hackle, if you use the saddle try to find some smaller size feathers or you could try some wooly bugger hackle.
The one in your photo will put a lot of food in your belly. Nice job.
Mike
I like, keep it up.
It will work , the buggier it looks the better, will catch fish even better after they have chewed on it a little!
Shu,
From what I've seen you've been tying some bomber jigs and flies. If you're not happy with them, you can gladly mail them to me and I'll dispose of them for you.:biggrin
That's a nice looking fly. Take it from a geezer trout guy, that would put some trout in the cooler.
