Prospecting!

Prospecting is what it was after hitting a few regular spots this morning! Picked up a few in the tried and true spots, but it was hunt and peck. I spotted an area that I have zoomed by on several occasions, and decided to actually explore a little. Guess what, they were home! My GPS now has a new little "fish" icon in place. Brush, docks, rocks, and deep water. The perfect storm. Since the water has raised so quickly, and is colder than it was a month ago, I'm just fishing deeper. Some of the females have eggs, and we caught one dressed up male. Water temp was 63-65 during the morning, and we fished in 15-30 FOW, the fish were about 10' down. The lure of the day was black and chartreuse BGBS. Most of the springtime only crappie chasers have hung em up, so I will go back to posting on my state forum. We are having lots of fun (wife and I) and are getting better with our electronics. Who knows, I may force myself to learn to enjoy trolling this summer. We kept a few, and released several. Those are nice fish!! Good to hear you and the wife are having a large time.

Nice fish! You are correct the spring fishermen have all but quit. With all the white crappie you might try trolling cranks.

That is what I have been thinking. I have the cranks, the rods, and the holders. My problem is a 40 lb thrust TM on a 17' glass boat. My other problem is, I just don't commit myself to trolling. I try, get frustrated, and go back to single pole. I've prepared a couple of 5 gallon buckets to drag and slow down the big motor. I will definitely try it again, because I did catch some last summer on cranks. Just gotta commit.......

or, just keep single poling and feeling the thump. better to catch 3 thumpers than 20 trollers, just saying.....

Well, that's where it always leads! I think I want to be diverse, but I love that single pole and that thump.

Anybody ever troll until they catch fish and then stop and single pole? Is that hard to do with amount of line that might be out?
I don't get to fish from a boat often so I'm just curious.

Chris, after a couple of "specific" posts, I couldn't get near my preferred spots. This spring I have just gone sort of generic. Hope you're doing well!

You could as the cranks usually float, but could end up with a heck of a mess/tangle due to winds and currents. IMO, would be easier to reel in the CB's and single pole, sorta flip flop back and forth as needed, but could be done.
