Love mine when I use minners. I have the 19 qt.
Love mine also, when I use minnows. I have the 30 quart. Good investment Hat.
Good investment if you use minners. I've had my 19qt for a couple years and only used it twice - but worth it. Keep an eye on Cabelas. They frequently have them on sale. That's when I got mine. See you all Saturday at Crappie Camp (I'll bring the pie plate.)
Hat...I have a 19 qt. and it will hold 1/2 -3/4 lb minnows easily. That's plenty of minnows for me since I usually catch a fish with each minnow. Also I only buy female minnows...the Crappie seem to like them better.......
Love my 19qt

I have heard that the mind is the first thing to go with a man of your age!!
Had one for a long time. I would get the biggest one you can. If you are only taking a few dozen minnows the smaller one is ok but if you take a pound or 2, you need the bigger one. Think if you buy a small one you will wish it was bigger.
I have the 13 and I am very happy with it, I get 3 dozen minnows at a time which suits that size fine, could easily hold more.
Rich (Wicklundrh) posted a while back his in depth review using it as a tournament fisherman, maybe he'll see this thread and repost.
I considered getting one of these but I thought the Aerator was noisy and the cooler was high so I just took an old igloo drilled a hole in the top to run the air hose thru got me a bubble box and it works great. Lot cheaper than a engel. EB
30qt 78.00 bucks Jet just bought one.
30qt 78.00 bucks Jet.com just bought one. That is with a 15percent discount for first time order sweet. Free shipping
Thanks for all the feedback.
I installed one of the 12 volt Marine Metals bubblers with two aerator hoses on my boat. I have one in the live well and one in my minnow bucket. i wanted something similar to the Engels bait cooler but I only wanted the cooler. I found an Igloo "ice Cube" that had a small compartment in the lid. I cut out the bottom of the compartment, drilled a hole in the side for the aerator hose and gave it a trial run today. It was not scorching hot today, got to 85 before I left. i had 3 dozen in there to start and all were kicking when I left 4 hours later. The water was still really cool too. I think this is going to work really well.
I like the small access door so I don't have to open the main lid to get minnows.

The cooler was under $20 at Walgreens, of all places.
Thanks SeaRay. I'll see if they have them here. Really like that one.
It is an Igloo Ice Cube 12 qt cooler(also called 14 for 14 cans). The Igloo website has them for $24 with a 15% discount on first orders. I think Walgreens must have had a close out sale for me to get it for $19.99. They had several so I didn't think anything about it being on sale.
I have a 13 Quart, I mainly fish solo , I got the 13 quart for the size, takes up less room on my boat. Works fine
Don't think it really matters what you put them in when it's cooler outside. I have used a standard ice chest and the Engel bait keeper. When the temperature gets up into the 90s I add a little ice to the water throughout the day in both. The Engel bait keeper does keep the water temp down longer when it's really hot but still have to add ice occasionally in either one. The main thing I like about the Engel is I can latch the lid and not loose half my water going to the lake or while I'm running across the lake in rough water. It's nice to keep your boat floor dry when the temperature is in the low 30s outside. Nothing worse than paying for a pound or 2 off minnows and loosing all your water and bait on the way to the lake.
Thanks to Blackdog I bought the 30qt on Jet.com for 76.00. Have used it 3x and I love it. Aerator is the quietest I have ever owned and it's nice to be able to plug it in to my cigarette lighter in the truck and boat. With the built in net I don't even use my minner net anymore. It's so dang heavy I can set it down up front and rip even in rough water without it tipping over or walking off the step down. Water tight- strong handle- easy to clean out. I could write ad copy for this thing. I too thought about making one but by the time you add a quality aerator I figure you save about 20.00 and end up with a good but not great bait keeper. The Engle is a great one.
