Wylie 5-11-17

Hit the water about 7 this morning in Big Allison. Perch were biting everywhere we stopped. The larger perch came from down at the mouth of Big Allison. The small perch(3 to 6") were hitting my spoon just as fast as it got to the bottom. We also used minnows & cut bait. We had some big shinners & small bream that caught 4 nice bass. The largest was around 4 lbs.

We caught a couple of crappies in with the perch & several more crappies around a brush pile.

Quit at 12 with 1 cat, 4 bass, 8 crappies & around 150 perch. Cooler was just about full & it was getting hot.

Cooler full of Perch, glad I didn't have to clean them.

Way to go Charles. Nice report. Is it about time for the bass dropshot you showed me? I cleaned all mine. I know you give fish away. I just cant see cleaning all those perch. lol. That 100 killed me.

Thanks Mr. Charles for a good report. I guess I better get Remus well and go after a few perch too!:biggrin

We use some of the perch for catfish bait. Most of the ones that I give away get cleaned & fried. It is a lot of work for several people to clean that many but they are always
looking for more. I tried the drop rigs some yesterday , but did not get any bites. The drop shot rigs & spoons should get really good soon!

I need a change. The perch are getting too small.

What does a perch spoon look like? Colored or plain silver?

This is the one we use. Berry's Flexit Spoon. Blue, white and chartreuse are good colors. We just bounce it off the bottom. We use 1/2 to 3/4 oz sizes.

Ya keep whackin them:fish perch Mr. Charles. One day I am gonna get back out and help ya on em.

I have had good luck with a 1/2 oz gold spoons made my war eagle that I bought at Cabelas. Also, 3/4 oz silver cotton cordell spoons work well. Normally, I am vertical jigging the spoons off the bottom.

You will be amazed at how hard they slam the spoon. You'll think it is a 5# bass only to reel in an 8 oz perch. Really fun when you get into a school of them.

Amen to that! We should start a Perchball league. Throw them to your fishing partner and whoever hits it the furthest with a paddle doesn't have to clean fish.:Rofl Brett can be the pitcher. rotfl
