I read there was a huge carp die off on KY lake. The article stated they are floating around the dam area is huge numbers. Is there anything to this article. The article stated that no other species of fish seems to be affected at this time.

There are a lot of dead silvers in the Dam area, that's for sure.
Dead and dying silvers all over the lake. Saw some huge dead bigheads today but I think they died from arrow penetration.
The Kentucky Afield show addressed it. They're not sure what has happened but seemed to welcome it.

They are dying off and while they are dying they are going nuts. Swimming around in circles, running themselves up in the banks, digging around in the mud like they can't see where they are going. Someone said it is some sort of bacteria I believe. What concerns me is how they are running around on the banks. I can't help but wonder if they will mess up bluegill and redear beds.
I agree with the above concern. Today, I counted around 20 of the silver carp swimming in circles and beaching themselves on a big area known for bluegill and redear beds. I'm wondering if the panfish will be intimidated to nest in their traditional areas because of these cruising, dying fish. It's creepy to be honest, especially when you see dozens of them just dying at the top of the water.
Me thinks KFWD is experimenting with biochemical warfare on surface filtering fishes ...
I hope so anyway ...

there was a kill off on the illinois river I believe last fall and it was for a 5 mile stretch. I havent heard any more about it since. they were silvers and bighead.
RE: Filtering Fishes
Hope whatever is affecting them doesn't mess up the spoonbills.
This seems to be the answer....

Didn't even notice the date on it. It seems strange that only the silver carp are being harmed.
Baby steps. Now, if we can reproduce this super saturation from the dams more routinely, we have a non-chemical approach at putting a rather large dent in these fish. When I say dams, I mean every dam feasible in any body of water where these fish have took up residence, in any state.
I'm not too concerned with political correctness with the actions taken to begin this war on these invasive species.

To All, Need some help on this die off from anyone who fishes KY Lake. Have a trip planned in early May, KY Lake, Blood River area for 1 week. Really need to know how bad this die off is. Don't want to come down and try to fish around dead/stinking Carp for panfish since this will be my major trip for the year, I can choose another lake. Have not seen any posts that say the panfish are dying off also, but want to make sure. So, if any of you have been on the lake lately let me know what you see, and if you can, post more info the next couple weeks on the die off if it is still going on. Hopefully, this will be over soon an we can resume fishing as normal. I agree it's good that it's that they have contracted some disease/illness and hope it wipes out all of them, but worried about the other species in the lake.
It doesn't appear to be changing anything so far. I was there last week and the fish were dying all over the place. Went back Tuesday and it seems to have slowed down. I only saw a few running up on the banks and the rest were just cruising like usual. I think you will be ok.
I have been on the lake several days and all I'm seeing affected are silver carp. Some places might smell if you are bank fishing but I wouldn't change any plans based on what I'm seeing.
The TVA is pulling 195,000 cfps. At that rate most will be heading towards New Orleans shortly. I wouldn't worry about the dieoff or the fishing. Did see this cat tho...

To all, thanks for the quick replies. Looks like I'll be OK for the trip. Looking forward to it.
