Found two fish floating today. Both were 1.5-2 lbs and had recently died or were about to die. Eyes were still clear, etc.
Both looked like their mouths were rotting off.
What is this?
They're both still in the lake (private place, not Barnett), BTW.

I picked one up at Enid the other day that was breathing but floating. It was 10 or so inches long and the inside of the mouth was turning light brown. It was a male fish, I just assumed it got infected from acting like a ram protecting beds all day
I picked up one at Enid that looked about like that. I didn't know what was wrong with it. Still don't. When I first saw it coming toward me, I had the notion, "Hey, a FREE fish!" Close evaluation relieved me of that notion.
Maybe Hypes, or been kissed by Jimmy Houston...lol

Had some fish like this 2-3 years ago in me reservoir. Would let ye just scoop em up in a dip net. They ate fine tho. Believe I was told it was a fungal infection because of the nutrient rich water from crop run-off. Now whether this is correct i am not 100% sure.
Since there are very few crops around the rez, my guess is that the nutrient source was probably substituted from the nutrient-rich runoff of one too many sugar ditches.;)

Bill hit it pretty good. I talked to nephew about this today. Most everyone wants weeds/insects gone and want it now since it's getting warm. They want that perfect lawn and no critters to disturb them if they sit outside. I have 3 warehouse close to me. They hire a company to spray for weeds with the blue additive to show where they sprayed. Within 24 hours we have a heavy rain, I can see the blue washing down the storm drains. They don't care, just a paycheck to them.
Check the chemical labels about wash off before using them.
Don't know nuthin' about the subject or the condition in question. I got a buddy who catches fish in an Urban area in East Memphis, more like Collierville in a private lake. Showed me photos of worms in his fish, the locals explain it to what cane just mentioned, runoff from fertilizers and lawn spray. Who knows, but worms are prevalent in Urban community lakes, doubt the two are connected, but food for thought. And BTW, I ain't eating no crappie with a large growth on their persons, or well guess fishes?? nonono
I've caught a lot of fish from different waters that had worms. While cleaning I find a dark red spot about the anal fin. A little red worm rolled up in a ball, Anisakis simplex. Remove it and cook the fish well before eating.
Nope, don't play with parasites.. sure there fine after 325 degrees of oil, but just couldn't enjoy em.. lol. I've never seen them personally.. hope I never do.

Deep freeze is the other way to make sure that parasites die a certain death,,, best to always freeze first, then eat fish
Lots of parasites you can't see get eaten with every bite of fish. They taste pretty good at 325 degrees in the grease and some breading on em. [emoji4]
