Crappie Lights?
Alright so my wife is headed off for vacation for a couple weeks and I want to give this night fishing a shot, it will be at Jordan or Shearon I am not sure yet. My question to you guys is.
-What lights do you recommend, I will be buying green but I am not sure which brand.
-How many lights should I use, I would like to buy two but if I go with a good quality light it will more than likely only be one.
-should I buy a new deep cycle battery just for the lights or can I use the one my fish finders run off of (I have one for the trolling motor and another for the other electronics).
Another question, should I focus more on bluegills in the middle of the summer or is the crappie fishing a year round thing down here in North Carolina. I would like to stick with crappie but bluegills are just as good in my book.
Thank you and I appreciate any and all help.

I use the floating flounder lights. I run them off the trolling motor battery. I also put them out away from the boat. I use 2 because i always have a buddy with me so i put one up front and one in the back of the boat.

What he said. Keeping them away from the boat helps with the bugs.

If you set up in a good spot. You won't have time to worry about Bluegill the Crappie will cover you up.

If you're thinking of buying a manufactured LED light then plan on spending some money. You can buy LED strips from Amazon and some PVC and build them for a fraction of the price. A quick and more inexpensive and just as good solution would be to use the floating lights that Mac recommended. I have 2 green LED lights and 2 white LED lights. I like to put green on one side and white on the other and see which one is hot for that night. I absolutely love fishing at night during the summer for many reasons. It's nothing to go out and catch 50+ in a few hours plus I catfish at the same time and catch a bunch of those too. I was hoping to be out there tonight but my daughter had an unscheduled softball practice. Maybe next weekend I'll be on Harris.
Do a search on this website and you'll find a bunch of threads talking about the lights.

I really liked the old floating car head lights but they pull some juice. I have the led now , 2 green and one white all purchased through amazon. They use less power and seems to work fine so far.

I can run 2 of the floating lights for 4-5 hrs and come home and put the battery on charge and it's still at 60%

You guys have helped alot, I think I will go with hockey on the green and white. And how do you guys keep them from the boat? Do you place them down wind or current, or do you use a pole?
-
I use a pole in a rod holder

Makes perfect sense, sometimes it's just that easy, haha

Thank you turkey, I will have to rig something up. And I think I am gonna build my own and experiment with different leds. Thanks for the help guys

If you don't want to buy the lights, there are several threads on here with directions to build them. I built a 2 foot green one a while back. Works great and only ended up with about $25 in it.

I tryed a lot on diffrent combos on lights over the years what I use now has worked the best for me. I have 2 green lights I put about 6 to 8 feet below the water one at each end of boat with lighter plugins on them. Then I have a string of UV water proof lights on the side of boat the string is 16 ft long and 300 led lights fish with floresent line and have the poles painted about 6 inches on end with floresent yellow paint bug are no trouble much because the UV dont draw them much use head lamps in boat only when needed. I even have small UV flash lights for tiein on hooks with floresent line works great. took me a while on trial and error to get to this combo but it has worked best.
