ANYONE DID ANY GOOD AT LAKE HICKORY???
Striper fished there last Saturday. Caught some very good crappie in the net while catching bait in gunpowder
Lake Hickory is my home lake I fish about two times a week.I have took some good fish from lake hickory at times,The are scattered and you have to hunt but you can find them over brush for the next to months,Water temp at this time is 59/60 degrees.Fish haven't gone shallow yet but should be moving in soon.Minnows under a slip bobber works for me
We were there last Saturday striper fishing. Did try crappie a little pulling jigs in the cove they call crappie hollar beside rinks dam cove. We had limited success. Wind was very rough.
We got one about 9lb., a big cat and one of the best largemouth I've caught. Right at 8. We were in the river. After seeing what came up in my net I think I may try pulling jigs in gunpowder soon.
We were pulling crankbaits (little bandits) for crappie in there last year and my wife caught her best. Weighed right at 1.7 lbs. there are some nice ones in there if you can put up with all the bass boats in and out all day.
The outside of the first turn past the bridge coming in is probably the best area in the entire creek. Lots of structure and lots of fish.
Anyone have an update on the water conditions? I know the upper end of James is trash so probably headed to Hickory
I fished Wednesday before the monsoon and below 127 bridge I found the fish staged on the first break holding 6-8 feet deep. Found them near brush and on rock, no rhyme or reason, but they are close, all fish had eggs but weren't fully developed yet, had one over 13" that I thought was a male, until I cleaned it, no belly whatsoever but full of very small roe. Jigs or minnows were what I used just with a slow retrieve.
I fished gunpowder Wednesday morning and the water was clear,Got a late start but got enough for dinner and all I wanted to clean,Fish were on brush
Thanks for the information Hillbilly been down a couple of years ! Planning to fish lake hickory a lot this year. Maybe run into you up there some day!
Hickory Water was clear 60 degrees at Wildlife landing at Oxford Dam, floating trash but clear in Mid Lake main channel, ....Water clear and in great shape, 58 degrees, from 127 to tail race of Bridgewater Dam..... We caught 2 Stripers.... Get Out And Enjoy!

Pretty work. The smile on the young man's face makes the day
Anyone got a report on the water conditions up there after this week's monsoons?
I crossed 321 bridge this morning and it was mud looking,Don't know how far down the water is stained.
That's a good looking bunch of fish right there!
Thanks hillbilly. That's the section I was most interested in. I was afraid it might have messed it up for a little bit
The water at 127 bridge was a bit dingy this morning but not muddy.Good enough for fishing
