My son and I get to go fishing together one time a year. Usually, we go in May for bream. This year we are going to crappie fish. We have 3 days starting Friday the 31st. We do not spider rig. Can I have some opinions on the best lake or lakes in Mississippi at this time to catch some fish with a single pole either jigs or minnows ? I fish in Illinois and am familiar with Rend and Kinkaid. I would happily share any information I have about these lake if someone would like to know. I was just told that a 4.8 black crappie was caught at Kinkaid this week. I have the pic on my phone but, am not sure how to put it here.
Stay in IL because they have 4lb slabs! Mississippi is all dried up. Many moons ago, some Yankees stole some Mississippi slabs to take back north to turn loose in Yankee waters. After thoughtful consideration, they felt they need to continue to deplete the Souths crappie inventory.
All she wrote then. The Big 4 are now gold fish ponds compared to those 4lb slabs from Kincaid Lake in Illinois.

As you can tell from the previous posts, Mississippi is full of comedians! Actually either Grenada or Enid or Sardis or Arkabutla will produce about the same results for you. Just pick a lake and follow the multitude of boats to where the crappie are... All of these lakes are low this time of year, but Arkabutla is ESPECIALLY low this time of year so be careful if you choose that lake.
I also singe pole. I was at Ren two weeks ago and love southern Illinois crappie fishing. My favorite single-pole location is Ross Barnett but it is the furthest from you.
The north Mississippi lakes (Sardis, Enid, Grenada, Arkabutla) are all low this time of year so be careful. You can single pole in any of these lakes too...
Grenada
Thank you very much
Ross Barnett all the way !!!
