Lake Conway Crappie 2-28

I headed out to Conway late yesterday morning. Got the poles in the water around noon. With the approaching warm front, the fish were active and slamming the baits. Gooch met me out there around 3pm and fished for the afternoon. Caught most of them a couple feet off the bottom with small to medium sized rosies. Others came suspended at about 5-6'. The spider-rig was producing well yesterday. We kept 35 crappie and a gut-hooked yellow bass. The fish were mainly on the smaller side, but we did have a few slabs in the mix. We probably released somewhere around 20 crappie, several goo, and a 10" flathead. Also, we saw a guy floating some shiners out away from the boat and working 'em back to the boat slowly. He caught several.

The Goocher earned himself a new title yesterday. He's going to drop the -ch and just go by Goo. He caught 3 caught three of 'em yesterday. I'm surprised he didn't hurt their feelings...he asked for the hemostats so that he wouldn't have to touch that ugly thing. A face only a mother could love...:D

Didn't get many pics yesterday because the action was too fast to leave the poles unattended. I guess that's a good thing...:D

Well its about time for all the slabs to move out of the deep holes and start hanging in the creek channels until the water warms up a few more degrees. The males should be in about 3-5 ft of water around stumps getting ready to move on the shallows and make their beds for the spawn. The females should follow close behind.

The smaller crappie will stay towards the deeper parts of Conway away from the gar that will be all over the shallows after the medium crappie and shad.

If you like gold the large flat will be so full of boats once the spawn starts and the wind will be hell around the interstate flat...stay toward the small flat before the railroad bridge and the edges of the channel. If you want a different spot try caney..Remember the Northwest part of the lake has the warmer water because of the wind and until the rest of the lake catches up it will also have the best fishing.

I'd love to head down there to Conway and join you guys. But, I just gotta get the evilrude blown out and Conway is not the place for that. Maybe one day next week I can get down there.

I was out in the yard and heard something..... I new that voice sounded familiar :confused: , then it dawned on me...
I said to my self "That sounds like Gooch" and he's catching fish.... hmmm :D
Then after just a couple minutes I saw a flock of geese headed back south. :eek:
I guess they heard the same noise and figured it was safer in south Louisiana. :D
When Dale catches, everyone knows about it...... :p :D :p

Nice lookin' pile o' fish. I wonder if anyone is doing any good in the duck blind and 89 bridge areas?

Hey Randy, it's a good thing that no of y'all were out there to witness it. Ol' loud mouth Goocher couldn't stay off the phone long enough to catch fish. I had to just about catch every fish for him. He just got to pull 'em in the boat. Everyone around us knew everytime we caught a fish cuz I was hollerin' "are you gonna catch that fish?"

And them geese better stay south. Goocher might hook one of 'em with his "expert" fish landing abilities. I said...just swing him towards you. And as Gooch says, "that went over about like a turd in a punch bowel."

Hey Slipcork, it's not my fault that computers and hi-tech equipment is in such demand. I'm just waiting on you...:D

And Joe, it's about time that you got back in a boat. I think a 65 degree day would do you some good. That's close enough to room temp...the cold weather that was holding you back is gone now.

Note to self... Never go to work for slipcork. You will stay behind and work while he slips off fishing. :D
