Boat steering question/malfunction

Hey All.

Quick question. Just put my boat on the water Friday. All was well Friday, then yesterday, right at the end of the day, when I accelerated up to cruising speed, the steering pulled VERY hard to the right. I could hold it in the center but the resistance was very stiff. It doesn't do it at slower speeds or at idle. Any ideas????

PS. We caught 4 really nice bass both days, but nary a crappie. Our lake doesn't have many, if any, deep piles for them to hide on. Water temp was 45 degrees up here at Lake Thunderhead.

The trim tab ,just above prop, has came out of adjustment or Fallon off. ??? :dono

Like Hookin first thing I would check would be that tab. If it is in place and not loose, I would check the motor mounts and all associated motor mounting bolts and hardware for something loose or broken. That can be really dangerous. Check steering cable attachment to motor also.

My guess would also be the tab. If that is not it I would make sure you take it to get looked at. Not something you want to take a chance with.

theysaid X 2 You may have backed into or bumped a limb and moved it over to the left.
They are usually set just a little [2 or 3 degrees] to the right when to are looking at the motor from the rear.

Oddly enough all was just fine yesterday when I had the boat out. Will check that trim tab for sure though and triple check all else I can see. Plus I'll be careful for a bit to make sure it doesn't happen at full speed. It was a helluva jolt!!! Damn near threw us all out into the 45 degree water.

Make SURE TO WEAR YOUR PFD!!!!

I have had the same thing happen and it was the fin behind the prop. Pulled very hard towards the direction of the rotation of the prop. Turning against the rotation was like trying to turn a slow moving car with no power steering.

Looks like what everyone else seems to be calling the trim tab. Thanks!!! I'll have a look!!!

had that same problem with my nitro . removed steering collum replaced with one that has cluch works great.
