Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Bay

I fished the North end of Limestone Bay again today. I ended with half a limit and returned another 8 or 10 that were over 10 inches. The fishing was very slow today with many, many small fish, I did return one 17 inch slab (measured it twice but still wasn't my 18 inch goal for a mount). Best bait was a Pink and Pearl Bobby Garland on a 1/16oz jig head. I spider rigged six poles in two to four feet of water. The water was clear with visibility of 12 to 18 inches and low 50's in the morning, warming to low 60's by afternoon.

We struck out Saturday,no one was doing good.Tried every thing except explosives.Water was rough,white caped all day long.Must have been 300 Bass boats on the water,good day to wash your clothes with all the traffic.

Even back inside the creek, the wind was still really bad.

The weatherman said wind at 7 MPH with gust to 10 MPH. It seemed more like sustained 15 MPH with gust to 25 MPH, LOL.

Nice job. I had to work until 2:00 Saturday, I was wondering was it as windy in the morning as it was in the afternoon? I have seen it white cap in Limestone bay and come over the back of a 14' old AlumaKraft years back.

The wind wasn't bad early, but got stronger through the day. By 5 o'clock it was a full gale blowing across Limestone Bay from south to north into the mouth of Limestone Creek.

FYI, none of these Crappie were dark and the eggs in the female's didn't look close. Even if the water stays warm I'd guess we're two to four weeks off.

Thanks for the report. I was wondering if anyone was catching dark fish. I watch Richard Gene The Fishing Machine video's on youtube and he was catching dark fish on Guntersville in Town Creek about a week ago. If you have not watched his video's they have some good fishing info for Guntersville and other lakes close.
