That can turn out bad. If u got them marked I would love to have that gps mark on them things so to stay clear
Me too. That's dangerous stuff right there.
I will see if Chance marked them. He hogs the side the helix is on.

He said he would get coordinates off the unit when he goes back to our shop. But it is out in front of holiday lodge. Here is a better pic with holiday lodge in the background. There are several in the area some are just under the water.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ab69e2e46d.jpg

Wow! A bad situation waiting to happen. I don't fish Sardis much, but y'all be careful.
Bad stuff right there, thanks for posting.
That's mayhem stuff for sure! Thanks for posting.
Looking at the water level at the ramp area looks like they would have been high in the air when I was there for habitat day. That location would have been just beyond the 3rd ramp. All I saw were the poles marking the channel.

What are they out there for?
Thanks to you and Chance Ken.. Good info there.
What this site is all about, least it is for me, thanks Ken!!!!!!
It's the old bridge pilings that the river out from the lodge. There are 2 on each side of the river.
Water is over 6 feet higher now than in was the 1st of Feb. They would have high and dry then, I would think.

Insane they haven't taken those out. SMH. Preach safety but they don't do much to help the cause like adding a safe place to dock boat coming/going from Holiday Lodge once water is up higher. Can't tell you how many boats I've watch get sunk there. Especially once it gets up a bit over that bank. People coming in from the east hit ground. Boat turns around next thing big wave over back end. I just don't understand it. How hard would it be to mark things?
Working habitat day at Butla we came across an old pile of concrete. Guessing it was left over from the castings at Plantation Point. I brought home a few items from the area, let them dry and see if they work.
My contact at Sardis won't reply about the history of the lake/ rivers.
You would think they would mark them with buoys .

A little history from my source. Panola county was connected to Oxford by way of Coontown on Iron rd. When the lake was formed Panola changed it to New Hope rd. The lower ramps are on the old road. No plans for markers around the concrete.
Ive been mud riding at the iron bridge .

The Corps of Engineers won't mark it because they already have their disclaimer at every boat ramp warning of dangerous underwater obstructions and obstacles. If they mark that concrete and didn't mark any of the others, they could possibly open themselves up for a lawsuit for damage or personal injury from the "sue happy" people because it wasn't marked! JMO
Just a thought but why don't we start a stickey or a thread and have folks post danger zones on these lakes im pretty sure all of us together have some maybe we can save a lower unit or two
I will come down and saw them off, start a "Sardis Save Your Lower Unit Fund" and call me late next fall. :popcorn
Great idea, slabin! Also, maybe we could come up with our own marking system, such a white jug w' florescent tape around it. If someone is in the area, drop a 3 oz weight on some nylon cord. Some body needs to mark that sucker out from Holiday Lodge if they're in the area!
Nah, not me, but taking out old concrete piles are a task that seems easier said than done. Two options, saw cut and remove or mobilize a track hoe and hoe ram down there and bust those suckers down. Or like you guys suggest mark them, I was out there Sunday morning and it was a comedy show. Folks that do more than 5mph on that end of the lake when the level is this low are asking for it. Saw 3 big glass boats almost stuck cause they ignore the channel markers at Holiday. Another guy went ripping towards Wyatts doing at least 50 with 3 kids in the boat... takes a village i reckon.
I was on 'Butla a few years ago when the water was low and noticed a bunch of old stumps that had pieces of rebar sticking out of them, no idea why anybody would do that other than to purposely create an underwater hazard.
Gonna check that coordinate on google earth and see if they show up in 1 of the aerials from the lake being low.Bored and need something to do!Thanks for the info and amazed no one has ever hit one of those!
THANKS for posting...this could save someone allot of trouble
