SANTEE----The Carolina King--- 3-13-3-3-14

Well.......First off, I wasn't super excited about our yearly crappie fishing trip this year due to the weather forecast. But due to the cancellation policy of 30 days or loose 2 $100 deposits on 2 cabins we elected to battle the elements and go anyway. Our group of 3 boats, 6 people are avid crappie fishermen and know the potential of the spring time bite at Santee so we still had a little hope. Monday proved to be as tough as expected howling winds and cold!!!!!! A total of 6 fish were landed in my boat with my other 2 companions striking out at other locations. Tuesday morning met us with rain and wind again ....Still determined we got up and ready only to discover that every rod we had had been stolen during the night only feet from where we slept... These sorry, Low Down, Good For Nothing crooks made off with a total of 58 rods ranging from 16' to 8' mostly Southern Crappie and B&M PST's. They stole a Grizzly cooler, trolling motor battery and even the dip net. We cut our losses and made the trip home after the police report was complete.

I must warn all to be careful as the owner was absolutely no help and even did not want to refund my money for Tuesday night. The officer that came was great and I believe will do all he can to help, he actually is a catfish guide and truly knew our losses. He also said this was not his first trip out there or first problems with the owner.

Wow!:scratchhead Hate hearing of all your bad luck. I know that's a tremendous expense loosing all those rods and reels and other equipment. I would truly hope the crooks try pawning off the goods and get caught. I cant stand a thief!:mad: Good luck getting your stuff back.

That's horrible bocoon! I sure hope they get caught. Sorry to hear about your misfortunes

Wow that is terrible. I've stayed at Carolina King on 3 occasions, last time for a week and never had any thing bothered. Course my boat was sitting right outside my bedroom window, but I probably would not have heard anything. That is too bad, sorry it happened.

Wow! I'm so sorry to read this. Its terrible that people are the way they are.
I'm praying for y'all. It's hard to imagine the feelings you must have. The frustration, anger and all. I'm sure hoping that LE is able to get the bottom feeders that ruined your time. They will have to face God and answer for the way they lived their lives.

That's the thing SEARAY all 3 of out boats were pulled up even in between cabins with residents on both sides......Had our on board chargers plugged in. Some people really have some nerve......

I hate hearing of criminals victimizing hard working people. Worst part is the thief couldve been a resident at the resort.

Hope they catch the guys that did this to y'all! Did you have insurance on your boat? One thing I have had since moving to NC years ago is insurance on my boat. Has come in handy(paid for lower unit). Also covers $1000 in fishing equipment. Sorry for y'alls loss and rough trip!

That is my worst night mare I fish from Sanford FL to Clark Hill and to Logan Martin in AL I stay in camp grounds and hotels.That would ruin a fishing trip I carry 16 to 20 rods and two tackle boxes I got where I put a cover on the boat at night to discourage thieves, I know a lock only keeps a honest person out. the law has to prosecute the criminal and make them pay for the crime. We have gone way past forgiveness in this country. SORRY FOR YOUR LOST.

DANG !!! It riles me up just to read about that ! Hope the police come up with the thieves and maybe return some of your stuff.

By any chance you leave within an hour of sumter, sc, if you do maybe you can just borrow some of my rods and gear until stuff gets replaced.

Sorry for your losses. It's bad when society shows you why so many people can't be trusted.

Hate to hear about this happening to you and your group that came to SC to fish.

Probably a locale resident, or some of those renegades from Jacks Creek. Sorry for your loses. Your home owners insurance will cover your loses minus your deductible. I know this due to having all my rods stolen at a tourney at Lake Wylie a number of years ago. How Carolina King stays in business with that A_ _ hole owner is beyond me. I won't put a boat in there unless the weather makes it absolutely necessary.

Bacoon, we know your trying to warn everyone. I think alot of people know the feeling and why there are so many comments.

I do. I talked with my agent and the deductible was so high in the end it wasn't worth......Forbid in the future someone actually steals the boat and all........ The cons outweighed the pros.... Just gonna try to get the word out, suck it up.....Remount and Reload!!!!!!! I enjoy fishing to much to let these types of low life people to deter me. After all they WILL answer for this one day.... SOONER OR LATER

To add to the MISERY we left on Tuesday......I guess they haven't inspected our 2 cabins yet because they have yet to refund my $200 deposit. (IN case of EXCESSIVE cleaning / Damage ). We were in our cabins a total of about 7 hours showering and sleeping.

Man that is a trip I wouldn't wish on anyone.
I surely hate that for you guys. I hope the sorry rats get caught for sure. Hope the next trip yall take is much better.

Glad I could shed some light!!!!! Santee State park has some nice cabins...I've stayed there several times without an issue. Just a little ride in the truck. I NEVER leave my boat in the water at Santee. 2 years ago I stayed at the state park and beached my boat on the shore while running trot lines and a storm came up. Waves came over the back and before I knew it, she was 3/4 full of water sitting on the bottom. I had to bail it out with a bucket......Mind you this is a 17 1/2 ft tracker...... That lake has little forgiveness.

I hate this for you BOCOON, we went on our annual trip and stayed there a couple nights this weekend. Was unaware of this and to think we left everything out in a couple boats that were crappie fishing and a few that were bass fishing, but I appreciate the heads up in the future. I will second the fact that the owner is not easy to get along with, we had a few issues with him this weekend and will be checking around else where before our group goes to Santee next year. The fishing was not any better for us than it was for yall, about all I can say is we caught enough to feed the group fish on Saturday night.

Yes sir, Santee is fishing tough right now.

Talked to my buddy Henry who is a good bream and shellcracker fisherman after he spent last week at his cabin at Stumphole. He also said the fishing was really tough. When Ink and Henry say it is tough, ain't much point in me going!
On another note, this was in the news today. They might find y'alls stuff in with this all this loot:

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Department charged 6 people after they followed a trail from an allegedly stolen 4-wheeler and trailer equipped with a GPS tracker to what they believe is a chop shop operation for processing stolen boats, motors and trailers.

When investigators on Monday tracked the GPS-tagged equipment to an address in Sumter, they arrested David Frazier, 19, of Summerton and Mason Donlon, 24, of Sumter.
Frazier allegedly told investigators they could find a lot of stolen stuff at another address, where he and two other friends exchanged a stolen camouflage bag with $100 worth of items in it for methamphetamine.
Sumter County deputies and agents from the SC Department of Natural Resources raided the residence of Craig Klavon, 31, at 4045 Gibbs Dairy Road in Sumter and found a boat, motor and trailer that had reported stolen as well as more boats, trailers and other items that had their serial numbers altered.
Fraizer and his two friends, Joseph Pack, 34, of Sumter and Jessica Preusser, 32, of Sumter were charged with larceny for the alleged theft of a camouflage bag with $100 worth of items inside.

Frazier and Donlon were charged with grand larceny for the 4-wheeler and trailer theft on March 20.
Craig Klavon was charged with receipt of the stolen camouflage bag and receipt of stolen goods worth more than $10,000 and operating a chop shop.
Elizabeth Schmidtchen, 25, of Dalzell, who was at Klavon’s house when the raid was conducted, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and pot.

That is terrible-Hope they catch the darn rascals and they have to buy you some new gear.
