Has anyone been down the 6 miles of heck to the southwest end of Larto? Wondering if it is being graded keeping it travelable (is this a word?)? Going on Friday till Monday pm. Staying at Buds #2. Any info would be great. Thanks, SLIP

Coming from Gonzales, I would go up thru Marksville over the Red River bridge and hook a right to hwy 1196 to Vick and continue down that winding road then left to hwy 3102 into Larto. SLIP
Lord willing I'll be there Saturday.....camo Ranger aluminum, 40 Etec, black lab named "Buddy".
I usually launch at Phil's.....gonna go to Uncle Bud's this time
Scratch that.....just checked both places on my phone, Phil's launch is shorter drive...
My camp is on Muddy Bayou on the Saline side, so I'll be launching by the camp. I'll be in a gray Triton with my wife and 4 year old boy. Prob won't make the run to larto though. Prob fish the saline side.
The diversion Canal route from where you are coming from will take you about 15 to 20 minutes longer, but a way better drive. Not having to go down that curvy road through Vick is nice and the diversion is kept up well, specially this time of year. I'm from Marskville originally and hunted and fished there my whole life. In my opinion, I would rather drive the extra distance, but that's just an opinion.
jfsiski, I didn't think about this route. Thanks for the tip. I'll take it Friday morning. Always wanted to go down the "Effie Hwy". SLIP
Definitely faster for you to launch at phils coming from washington to fish, but slip is staying at uncle buds so he'll want to drive around. However, Woodsons Landing would be the quickest place for you to get your boat in the water if you wanted to fish the saline side.
I have driven both ways and agree with jfsiski, the diversion canal road is the way to go even with the little bit longer drive. One word of warning though, if you don't want your boat and trailer COVERED with dust, then do NOT take the diversion canal road. I did hear that the "bean field" road (road that you are talking about through Vick) as we call it is in very good shape this year though.
Thanks for the info. Staying at Buds #2. I have a Burgundy Express w/ 90 Merc. Good luck to all....SLIP
Yes the Bean Field road is in good shape. I've used it a lot the past two months. However, it is dusty. Probably clocked it at 45mph.
Slip the road through the Delta is in good shape. There's been a school buss using it this year and have graded pretty regular. you may notice some survey control points along the way I hope blacktop is in our future. Have a good trip and let us know what ya'll catch. Chip
New nice boat, I'll pass on the canal and run south of Jonesville. It adds 25 minutes, but it takes that long to get the dust out of my gear.
