Absolutely helpless.
The wife and her mother have both been evacuated due to the fires in Hutch. I am stuck down in Austin TX. My wife was allowed back in the house for a little while today and evac'd again. But at least our house is good for now. We still don't know about the mother in laws house. There were several damaged/destroyed in her neighborhood last night. Information has been really sketchy. Fortunately the wind dropped seriously today so hopefully they can get things under control. Really a helpless feeling trying to deal with this from so far away. My wife has been a real trooper through the ordeal. I was going to head home today for moral support more than anything else but there really isn't anything that I can do except be there. Thankfully we still have 2 daughters and her family in the area. Hope that you and yours are safe and not in the burn areas.

Hope things are ok with your families home. I live on the north side of Wichita. PM me if there is anything you or your family needs help with. After 3 deployments I know what it feels like to have things go wrong at home and not be able to do anything. Don't be afraid to ask for help if there is anything you need.

Thanks to all. Your thoughts and offers are truly appreciated. Fortunately my wife was allowed back home this morning and my Mother in Law should be allowed back in tonight. Unfortunately the home 2 doors down was a total loss. I spent several years doing fire and water damage repair and restoration. They have a good agent and will be able to rebuild, but the pics and papers are irreplaceable if not backed up electronically. (Are yours? food for thought) No fatalities in our area though. Counting our blessings! Will be home on Tuesday for a couple of months of local work for a change. Try to make it up to Momma with a fishing trip or 2. Thank you again.

Prayers for safety and strength.

It's amazing how many homes KS firefighters saved with the circumstances. I tried to push firewise communities 10 years ago and the folks in my county basically laughed at me. Wish I was still there maybe it would now get some traction.

Been busy for the last couple of weeks. My home was completely missed but my mother in law lost 5 outbuildings. Barn, garage, pump house, and 2 mobile homes used for storage. All to the ground. Without water and power she'll be living with us for a couple more weeks. Melted the siding off her house and broke a couple of windows but never even scorched the house. A lot of thanks to our first responders! Thank you all for your prayers and concern. WeAttachment 261607Attachment 261608 are rebuilding now.Attachment 261609

On a high note I will be home for a couple of months. I got home last Thursday and this followed me home.Attachment 261610 Needs a lot of upgrading but the motor runs perfect. Will have it pretty well rigged and will try to make it to camp this year. Look forward to meeting all who can make it.

JD1 It would be great to have you at camp the last of April and bring the wife for a fun weekend of fishing. Looks like we are going to have a really good turn out and lots of good fishing stuff to give away Saturday night after supper. Let us know for sure if your coming and we will add you to the list. trying to get a good head count to make sure we have enough food for everyone.
