Proud new owner. First big boat!

Well guys and gals, I am now the proud new owner of a 1990 sea nymph tournament tx150! It's 15' with a 2002 Johnson 25 hp motor and a 2011 motor guide trolling motor. It came with everything needed except for 1 seat in the back and fish finders. I'll be putting my garmin dv151 on it soon. I'm so excited I can't contain my self. Can't wait to get this baby out on the water and start filling it with crappie and all other sorts of aquatic tablefare.
And this brings me to my first question about a boat. Does anyone have any tips for getting the old registration stickers and numbers off?? I'm trying a plastic scraper / razor blade and goofoff. I've been using a hair dryer to warm up the glue. But it's still pretty slow going. And tips? Also accepting any and all tips and suggestions for helpful modifications or things to look out for. This being my first big boat I have a lot to learn. WD40 and a rag for getting the old glue off from stickers.

Congrats on your new ride. Good luck with the catching too. Nothing like having a "New to you" boat just waiting for you to get on the water. BTW, try a heat gun or good hair dryer on the letters. Makes them soft and easier to remove. Happy fishing!

Congrats on a fine rig there. Maybe a body shop heat gun with razor blades on the decal removal.

If you have a angle grinder stop by a parts house and pick up a decal removal tool it's a brush looking wheel that will pull the stickers rite off! Congrats on the new boat! Good luck and enjoy!

Congrats on the boat. Very similar to my Sea Nymph Bass Attacker with 40 HP. Mine has lasted for 25 years and still going strong. It will smell like fish for many years :highfive

Nice ride!!!! Know you gonna love it.As for the stickers I've always used a hair dryer blow dryer and a razor scraper and be patient.

Get it in the water

Great looking boat congrats. Only thing I would suggest, and hard to tell from pics might be ok, but your trailer bunks should extend to the rear of the hull, actually like mine about 2" beyond transom. Keeps from bottom denting up causing a wedge that will rob performance. And do not use PT lumber anywhere near the boat especially on bunks. But great looking boat and those ole Johnson motors are solid units. Enjoy catching a pile of fish in that one.

That is a good looking set up there, hope it runs as good as it looks and helps you catch
lots of crappie.

I have took a razor blade and trimmed the corners that was loose clean up the old stickers let em dry real good and put new ones over the old ones or Use a pressure washer may take a lil bit but once the water gets under the edge of a sticker it should come right off .congrats on a fish catching machine!

That is a great little boat. I had an '87 model 25hp that was much like a lawn mower it was so dependable. Trolling motor and electronics upgrades will come in time, but I see no reason to do anything to it but make sure the batteries are sound and the fuel lines haven't deteriorated from ethanol, fuel filters are clean, and your safety equipment is sound and in place. Short of that, make it stink like fish. I had a 16' stick steer boat with the motor I mentioned and I miss it all the time. I wish you many big fish......Skeet.

Time to get some fish slime on it.

Nice boat check the trailer bearing's out.!!!Also check the transom"breaks,crack's".Had a 1979 stick steer with 25 evinrude. Put it up for sale and the guy did'nt even try to jew me down.As has been said add trailer bunk's."makes life a lot easier. Nice safe boat.Wear your life jacket and a kill switch for the motor.Good fishing have fun be safe!!For the letters clean up the old letters and place new letter's over old ones can be done and look real neat and legal.

My advice, get it wet and get some blood on the decks! In all seriousness, upgrades and mods can be very user specific. Take her out and fish a few times and learn what you need to make it do what you want. Then I can guarantee that someone on the site can point you in the right direction on how to do it.

Sea nymph makes a great boat. Had a bass attacker years ago. They are very durable. Enjoy!

A heat gun with a carefully used flat razor blade as suggested above is a great start. You can also try WD-40 or goo gone or goof off cleaners to help soften. Congratulations on the new boat, and good luck!

Update on the boat, today I installed my new rear seat, mounted a yard stick in the back for measuring, finished getting all the old registration numbers off and the new ones on, placed carpet over the boards on the back of the trailer, got an anchor rope and hooked it all up, mounted my garmin dv151 up front, and I bought a new garmin Striker 4cv for the middle of the boat by the console and got it installed. The only thing I didn't get finished today was mixing up oil/gas and replacing the inline fuses. Not sure why, but in the front and the back the inline fuses were blown when I bought it and the fuses were actually melted into the plastic casing. So me and dad are going to dig into that tomorrow before we take it to the lake for the first time. If that was the TM wires, they might need to be a little bigger to carry the amps without heating up. If they had a little corrosion, the added resistance would also generate enough heat to damage the fuse blocks. Good idea to replace. You'll get this all ironed out and have a lot of trouble free fun. Soon too, I'll bet.

Congrats on the new ride . Remember to be thankful when you blow your first motor that it could always be worse. Could have a 150 to replace . lol :biggrin

Looks like a nice boat that has been kept well. Unless you got a maintenance report however id be checking out the water pump impellers.
An ounce of prevention on a boat always beats the alternative. Like the bearings on the trailer, you wont know till you know unless you maintain them.

Another update on the boat,
After spending 5 hours yesterday with dad redoing all the wiring. We got the boat on the water for about thirty minutes. So now that all the other chores have been checked off the list we only have 3 new things to work on. The battery that came with the boat won't hold a charge. And it doesn't have enough juice to start the motor. But when I pull start it it works just fine. Also, when I went to pull the boat back onto the trailer, I couldn't see the sides of the trailer and actually put the boat on top of one of the bumpers and bent it. So that need fixed and I need to put some kind of sticks or "goal posts" on there so I can find the trailer when the boat is in the water. And finally, we discover that the brake and turn signal lights work but not the running lights. We traced that down to the wiring harness on my truck.
But after we get those 3 things fixed I should be good to go

You will have to figure out how deep the trailer needs to be in the water. All boats are different. A lot of times they don't have to be very far in the water to get them loaded.
