Each fall, just before ice up, we troll the small size Rapala Husky Jerks. Great for big yellow perch, crappie and even a gill or two will take a crack a them. Many years ago, I caught one of my biggest crappie on a bass sized Rattle Trap. Not sure either approach is targeting numbers of fish, but certainly quality. This season I want to try blade baits. :)
I don't know as I would consider using them for a cast/retrieve bait, but I do have several that are included in my crankbait box and they may see action in my "pushing" technique.
Wouldn't surprise me that a Crappie would hit one, if presented to them in the way they wanted it. I'd just be concerned that I'd be presenting them to more Bass than Crappie, unless I was able to find a concentration of Crappie in a localized area ... which if I did, a jig or Roadrunner would likely elicit as many or more strikes. I already catch enough Bass & other species of fish, when casting or pushing my baits (esp. marabou Roadrunners).
So, IMHO ... yeah, they'd work. But, I've seen a fishing partner catch one on a 1/2oz spinnerbait, and I caught one on a 4" plastic craw. But, both were unintended catches, as both were caught when we were Bass fishing. So, I don't use either of these as a routine choice for Crappie.
I threw a 4" husky jerk on the rip rap at Normandy Dam years ago, near spawn time. Was looking for Smallmouth but caught 5 slab crappie near a bush at water level. Put it in the right place and they will hit. I would carry a second rod with the jerk attached and throw it at anything near the bank. This time of year it will probably be a one here and one there kind of bite. It's fun regardless.
I catch crappie on a Zoom Fluke soft jerkbait. I use 4" on a 3 ft leader with sinker 3 ft from bait. Some days the "injured bait fish" action drives them into hard strikes.
Just ordered some Zoom Flukes will try them this summer.
They work great with an Offshore Tadpole pulling them. You can run em as deep as you want with the Tadpole.

My Father is a jerkbait specialist he fish's the Bomber Long A "gold/Orange belly suspending,The rapala count down,Huskey Jerk gold/orange suspending and catches some big crappie out of a hard to crappie fish lake that only has little ones's "so says the local's "LOL.We caught a limit yesterday"Arkansas" this time of year with the shad being stunted from cold water. Can catch your biggest crappie of the year.
SSHHHH..kidding aside..yes been doing it for several years now. I was targeting walleye, when I 'discovered' how well it worked. Work's very well over the tops of heavy weeds. 5
I've caught quite a few white perch while bass fishing in the spring. Back before the suspending Rouge came out I'd use lead wire on the hooks to make 'em suspend to the point it would take 15 to 25 seconds to surface. If there was a white perch or bass by a laydown, they couldn't help but hit that ole Rouge just hanging there.
Those Zoom tiny flukes are some killer baits. When fishing rip rap I simply take a #6 mosquito hook and hook the fluke thru the eyes. Just work it weightless along a shallow water rip rap bank and it is killer on crappie. I love using the pearl white ones but they are hard to find.
I have caught crappie on big jerk baits when bass fishing but it's not all the time. Now the small CD Rapala's work pretty well at times. I think I've seen some videos on YouTube about this subject be sure to check them out

Not a jerk bait but I've caught plenty on Culprit 7.5" Worms - Tomato only. Crappie go bonkers for them.
Also Bass Pro Shops Tournament Series Squirmin' Worm - 4'' in Tomato Core also.
