Pops Took A Road Trip

He's not in Missouri but drove through the state to get there! A bass fishin' buddy of ours convinced my dad that while fishing Toledo Bend for bass, they would catch big crappie on spinner baits and crank baits and that's all it took. He's been down there for a day and a half and while he hasn't had to venture more than a mile or so away from the cabin, he's figuring them out quick.

As you can see, they are some toads. Biggest was just over 2 lbs and lots of 1 3/4. Terrible cell phone service but last I talked to him he's headed up a river to find some BIG (3#) white crappie.

Unfortunately I just got back from a 2 week stint in Asia otherwise, I'd be there!

I called him on that as well. He said that dang greenfish gutted the jig and no way it was gonna make it. Apparently anything under 5# the locals keep anyway???

That's a heck of a run but I'm not scared of it. Something tells me I'll be down there next year about this time.

Yeah..........he's not having fun at all. Day #2 - went exploring up a no name creek and landed on em! Got one text from him all day and it was with these pictures titled, "BFE".

That was his plan however, not sure I could move on after getting into the blacks like that either. He's got 3-4 more days down there.......something tells me he'll soak into a couple that push his personal best.

I think the thing that kills me the most is he's not retired.......probably never will. It's called being an empty nester and a never-ending itch to catch all the crappie out there.

He'll be up here in the next 30 days or so chasing crappie/walleye with me on Lake Winnebago. Dude can't get enough and I LOVE IT!

Last day (Friday) for pops in Texas....... dude had a hell of a trip and as expected, he's gone ahead and booked a cabin for the same week next year with expectations that I (and anyone else) will be there!

He took a breather on Saturday but we are already talking about a long weekend chasing the walleye/crappie up here in late April. I was supposed to be on Lake Michigan this past weekend chasing browns and coho however, 8-10 foot seas put the kaibash to that!

Actually just cancelled our week's reservation at Bucksaw today. We had planned on being down there for camp and staying at the kitchenette's on the water again however, my little girl is due April 17 so I felt it was the fatherly thing to do to stay close to home. We've reconfigured our plan and now will be making day trips to Winnebago for crappie/walleye and Lake Michigan for coho (silver) salmon using my house as home base.
