If it was me, I would spend a little more and get the echomap 73sv with chirp. You may be okay with the striker but I wasn't. Talked to garmin several times and just couldn't get the detail I was looking for with the striker compared to the echomap series. There is only a couple hundred dollars difference in the echomap and striker and personally don't think there is any comparison.
I am working with Garmin right now to try and resolve the issue. They are great folks. I may have a bad unit. I sent photos to them and they said there is an issue so I will update you when we get it worked out
I have a echomap 73sv at the console with a transom mount transducer and a striker 7cv on the TM. There is no comparison in the detail with the echomap beating the Striker hands down. Working with Garmin right now to find out why. They say it could be the transducer is not strong enough to produce the signal the Striker needs for clear detail.

That's basically what they told me and are sending an upgraded transducer. We will see if it works
will do
I am using a echomap 73sv. I have trouble seeing thew ClearVu screen in bright sunlight but that would be my only complaint. I have tried all the different color Pallets and have settled on black/emerald
I've got the Striker mounted on the front of my boat and I love it. No complaints.
I like my echo I just have trouble seeing the screen in downvu only and that in bright sunlight only.
I also have the 73sv and like it. thought about getting a smaller unit for the bow but just built a swivel mount for it for now.
the clear vue and side vue screens are tough in bright sun to see.
I had the same problem with mine that TimY had. The Striker 7 shows plenty of detail or at least mine did, they just don't have the target separation for separating the fish from structure the echomap 73 series has. Garmin sent me another transducer also and it didn't change a thing so I replaced mine with a 73CV which shows good detail and good target separation. After looking at the specs on the Striker and the Echomap the Echomap is running more power than the Striker unit.

I have since got 2 new transducers. Unit works great in 10 fow and less. Just not enough power from the unit. Echomap 73 CV has more power. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.
