I was told that there are two laws in MS. something about tongue weight and commercial use . If you not making a living with it you are fine . Another says if it's on the road it must have one . I never bought one till I went to Pickwick . Never got stopped in MS. But them Bama troopers will be like a chicken on a june bug . Trust me I know!
Pretty sure you have to have one..have seen LEs come on a boat ramp, and write tickets..they don't cost much.
One day at Lamar Bruce many years ago SO, wardens , checked every truck on the ramp..wrote I've 20 tickets..mostly for no tag..even 3 wheeler trailers should be tagged if used on the road...
I have found that it is all in who you are in this world. Some people can break the law and it is just fine they can get tickets and have them dismissed later. It is all in who you know in this world. The bad thing is most of the time others have to pay out their noses for the same thing.
Just buy the tag, and don't be worried about it...
This is correct. ^^^^^^
Mississippi used to be optional for Titling a trailer. Now you must Title it according to my customers there. Titling isn't the same as registering. You register your boat to get your state sticker and numbers but you don't send in for a Title. My customers tell me that Tags are a must in Sippi now, as is Titling.
In Tennessee, you're supposed to register a trailer, but no title or tag is required.
In Arkansas, the only thing you Title is the trailer and that is a must as is a tag. You still register a boat to get your state sticker and numbers as with all states.
I was always told & thought that if you ran an "F" or Farm tag on your truck , you didn't need a trailer tag in Mississippi.
Buy the tag, they are cheap. I use a company truck registered with TN tags, my boat is registered in MS. I don't have tags on service trailers, my company trailers and service trucks are TN registered, TN doesn't require tags for trailers, it's optional. Still every now and again get a hayseed cop in MS that pulls my guys over with truck TN tags and pulling a tagless trailer. Reason no trailer tag, tell them no tag needed for a trailer in TN. Had one cop in Tupelo tell one of my guys, well you ain't in TN anymore now are you boy?? I tell them now just tell them write the ticket and get on with it... it won't stand in court. If you live in MS and your truck, trailer, and boat is registered in MS you are required to have a tag.
If it rolls on MS roads and from MS, they want their tag money.

This came off Mississippi dept of taxation web site. When I bought my boat in 2010 I was given a paper, actual law as written in books stating same thing. Doesn't mean they won't write you a ticket though.
Does Mississippi title boats, watercraft and boat trailers?
Please contact the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (phone 601-432-2065) for information on boat and watercraft registration requirements in Mississippi.
Boat trailers may be voluntarily titled if less than 5000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW.) If the trailer is over 5000 pounds GVW, then it is required to be titled
