Hello Everyone,
My family takes a trip to a different state park every year for Easter. Since my wife and I are the only two that fish on a regular basis we always try to convince everyone to go somewhere we can fish. Well this year we won! We convinced everyone to go to Poverty Point for Easter! That being said, what's the lake like in Mid April? We'll be focusing on sac-a-lait mostly, but I'd like to do a little bass fishing as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Most likely the primary spawn will be over and done by then, but there will probably be a few crappie and bass willing to bend your pole.....the lake is also full of catfish that seem to be willing to jump on your hook anytime of the year:fish:fish:fish:fish:fish:fish
So, it doesn't look like it'll be a great sac-a-lait trip from what I'm hearing? I have a 14ft, john boat with a 15 hp motor. You think that's sufficient enough for this lake?
I disagree about the white perch spawn. I've caught them of the bank along the rocks as late as the first week of May. I would go to the lower southeast corner where the old Bayou Macon channels are and fish just out from the rocks along the bank. Fish 15-18" deep in about 2 FOW. If no luck there, fish about 6 feet deep in 6-8 FOW in the same area. I'd also bass fish in the same area. Also don't forget the channel catfish. You can catch them just about anywhere but they might also still be spawning out from the rocks.

Ok. Gotcha. Have you ever caught fish in the channel there at the south parking area or I should say when coming out into the lake from the ramp, I've tried before n seen plenty of fish on the depth finder but I've never gotten bite there.Quote:

For the first several years after the lake opened it seems like most people who fished for crappie in the winter fished the old slough out from the south launch. I used to see a dozen boats there with people catching fish but as time passed by no one seems to fish it anymore. I've always thought the crappie should still be there and have wondered why everybody stopped fishing that spot. That being said, I'm like you. I've tried it a few times and have caught hardly anything.
If one of you would like to post a map of the lake and mark it up, or send it to me in a PM, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm wanting to try over there bad, but have no knowledge of the lake at all..:banghead

Try the Bream while you are there.Has some good ones in the lake.The lake is loaded with Channel Catfish and you can catch them on red wieners just about anywhere you throw a line in.You and your wife should catch a big mess of them.

. Hope I do this right. I'm new to this forum and new to posting using a cell phone. Concerning your boat size - it's perfectly fine BUT beware of the wind on PP. it only takes about 10 mph north or south wind to badly white cap. I used to have a similar size boat and, believe me, it can get dangerous quick. Also, beware of the past wind break islands. They are marked but have eroded away and lie inches under the water. Check out historical google earth photos to see what I'm talking about. Hope this helps.Quote:
