Time to get a new one. What's the best for the money? I'm not looking to spend over 200. I'm looking at low end units. Saw bad reviews on the elite 3 and was curious about the hook3 and hook4? Any others to look at?

I understand what your saying, but your not going to get much with the budget you have. If you don't mind used units, you could possibly find a better unit used that you can afford. Various sites have classifieds like ours here, but the best for electronics is bass boat centrals forum classifieds. They have one just for electronics.
Good luck.

Just keep a eye out on the classifieds and you can find a very nice used unit pretty cheap!
I'll keep a lookout for used units is there a model/brand I should stay away from being used? I'm a full time duck hunter/part time crappie fisherman. Everything fishing related comes off early November. Really just lookin for water temp and depth. Any leads on a good used unit is appreciated.
A Sonar 2D/Gps combo can be found used in that price range and is a good unit for the money.
I have Humminbird and lowrance electronics.... Both do fine for me.... Both of my Humminbird units were bought used and have had no issues....
There is a helix 5 di for $200.00 in the classifieds I think sounds like a good deal
I appreciate all the tips I'll give a look at that helix 5. Appreciate yall
For a beginning, first time unit, the Hook3 works very well. Of course the more you spend the more you get.
I put an elite 3x lowrance on back to mainly see depth/temp , but it's a pretty good little unit if you use a hand held gps like I do . I have a elite 5 hdi on the tm. it does it all fairly well but processor is slow on chartplotter . other than that it is a good unit and amazon has/had them for 200.00 . At one time they were 600.00 .Your best bet is to call Brian at BBG MARINE . (ON SITE SPONSOR) He will get you the best he can . I have bought several trolling motors(2) that wal-mart could not undersell as well as depth finders(3) .
Cabelas has a hook 4 with gps for under 200.00
GPS and a good map card is more useful than sonar.
This would be a very good deal for $200.00 TYD

If you're gonna be pushing jigs (spider riggin) I'd try to find a decent used unit that also gives you speed. I'm finding speed is as or more critical that color of jig. The right combo of both is ideal, but speed for presentation is king in my world right now. Good luck....have fun and lie like he--. lol
I have a Helix Si unit I'll be selling once I order my Helix Mega....Let it go for $325
I have a lowrance elite 4 that has gps down imaging and sonar that's a pretty good little unit once you learn what fish look like on it and how to use it. The only thing I don't like is you can't network it with another unit. If I had to recommend anything though I would say don't get anything under a 7 inch screen. The Garmin units are solid for the money

The Helix 5 is about as good as it gets on a budget. A NEW sonar only is 2-250.
It sold, dang it!!^^^
Cabelas- Elite 5 CHIRP sonar/ gps- refurbished for 199.99.
Well what do y'all think about the hook 4x vs the striker 4cv garmin has out? I've always heard good on lowrance but not a lot on garmin.
Garmin is looking pretty good to me. Kinda looking at the striker 4cv.
Garmin is the leader in Gps...have not had their sonar, but bet they are good
