Crappie/Bass Rod

Greetings Angler Family,

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a bass and crappie rod. (I'm a poor truck driver) I have been looking at the Wally Marshall Speed Shooter. It's a 7' ML and rated for 1/64th-1/4 ounce.

I was just checking to see if anyone had experience with this rod or have their own suggestions as a good rod for both. I imagine I would mainly be casting 1/32-1/16 (more 1/16th than 1/32) and probably 1/4 shaky heads, weightless and drop shot as far as bass.

One driver to another, OH brother! Lots of good choices to choose from. If you don't handle it, don't buy it. Not all medium actions are the same, and the same goes for every action made. I will add to take a look at the Shakespeare Micro Lite rods in 5'6" and 7'. Both are good and under $20. I use both and like them a lot. They have enough backbone for a bigger fish but might be a bit light for the bigger bass. Good luck finding what you're after, and be careful out there.

Check out BnM float and fly rod. Built a little heavier than a crappie rod.

I don't see why Most medium light 6.5'-7' spinning rods couldn't be used to fish for both . Most are rated for 4-8 lb line .
Rods specifically designed for drop shot bass fishing , I would think would be perfect . Gillchaser

I agree about medium lights. However, I guess it would be more the tip loading with that light of lure. I don't have a boat and I am stuck to shore fishing, so I need a rod that could handle flinging a 1/16th and occasional 1/32 to a respectable distance.

I know that every manufacturer has different "specifications" as to what "action" a rod has. I was just hoping that someone else on here lobs jigs and had a "hands on" recommendation. I know, it's truly a 9mm vs 45 type can of worms I'm opening here. Lol

If you can stop by one of the big stores like Bass Pro or Cabela's or the like, and handle a bunch of different rods, I believe you'll find just what you want. Price might become an issue, but the education will answer a lot of your questions. My all time favorite isn't in production any more but can fling a 1/32 farther than any other rod I've ever owned. It's a Berkley Lightning Rod in 6'6" medium action with a fast taper on the tip. I have found some good rods for different techniques in areas I wouldn't have ever looked, and several I still use came from flea market vendors and bargain bins. And also, Welcome from Central Florida.

I do not know the size of the bass you are targeting normally. All I can say is that I've taken some pretty decent fish - and quite a variety of species - with my B n' M 7' Sam Heatons Super Sensitive (SHSS) with 1/16 oz. jigs while crappie fishing. All these were taken with a Pflueger President #6920 filled with 2# test Fireline Crystal. If you do your part, this combo will do it's.

YES... I bought one of these rods last year from walmart and it is my favorite of the several others I have.

From one Truck driver to another know your pain the price of diesel fuel "yaks" Have the Wally in the 7,8 and 9 ft all I carry "ML" and love them if broken will replace. Grizzly jig!!!

Thank you gents for the responses. Crestliner you win the thread with those beautiful fish. I figure if the Sam Heaton can take that big rainbow and that Northern, I'm sure it can take the bass that I catch. (Biggest I've caught was a 4.5-5 pounder). I've always wanted a B'N'M pole or a Wally Marshall. Nothing says Crappie quite like those two brands. Now I am torn between 2 poles, but at least I knew that I was on the right track. I use the 7" version and I love it. I pair with a Pfluger president 6925 and 4 pound gold Mr. Crappie line. Good
bacbine and good sensitivity for the small price. Wife likes it because it is two pieces.
