Any dates been talked about for this event at Green River?
OH I was wondering what SPING FLING was?? :Rofl I'd like to know myself. however it is still just a little bit early.
any body know how Chucky is doing? haven't heard anything since last fall.
Yes ... I have a date in mind, but nothing set in stone. Will most likely start setting things in motion in early March.
Chucky is still alive and kickin' ... just not as much or as high as before. He still has a business to run and a family to take care of, so those are his top priorities.
I just set things up, and MC the drawing .... soliciting the majority of the prizes and bringing the cooking equipment & doing the cooking is up to Chucky. IF he's healthy enough, and can get away from work for that weekend, then it's up to the weather and lake conditions as to whether or not the Spring Fling will take place.
Early March is good for me unless it is the first weekend in March......lol.
All Chucky has to do it say and I will be there to help!!!
So IF Chucky is out we are all out? hope all is well with him and things get better I understand he has priorities BUT the other 50 of us would like to try to attend the event.. there is many of us that can cook and Im sure with a little help from one another we can ruffle up some door prizes.
I've got to make this one of these days ...
Rickie
Chucky hasn't let us down, yet. I just don't want to push him beyond his capabilities (post heart attack).
And believe me ... he and I both really want to do this for ya'll !!
And yes, we would love to have some of our West KY members attend !!
You can get a glimpse of what all goes on (minus the fishing) at this event, by reading this thread from last year's event : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/kentu...rt-pics-2.html

If it is needed, I have deep fryers that I use below the dam on Cumberland for the fish fry at the trout tournament. One restaurant style and five burners and pots. Just let me know
Love to see you make it Rickie. Be good to have 2 day event and maybe u could give us one of your seminar on electronics. Like u do at KY lake get together.
LittleJohn
Rnvinc come on down you can even fish with me and while we're out I guess we could talk about electronic lol
don't do it Ricki he will have you so backwards u wont find ur way home... But u can fish with me!!!! LOL
If you guys can get a date set in stone, I'll be glad to set it aside on my calendar. I'd love to get my boat wet up that way and even do a pulling/pushing seminar if anybody is interested. I can scratch a door prize or 2 up. I figure cuz will need a ride.
That would be great Doug. Hoping you a speedy recovery on your knee.
LittleJohn
That would be great I'd love to see your pulling seminar.
If we can lock down a date I'd love to make a trip back to my old stomping grounds and see if my numbers still hold fish.
Not to discourage anyone, but normally this is a one day event ... where we fish from daylight to about 2PM and then prepare the fish - cook'em & eat'em - give away the door prizes - clean up the area ... and we're done (usually around an hour before sunset). Some of us that come from a distance will rent a cabin from Fri-Sun ... but most just show up that Sat morning & head home when the festivities are done.
Right now (but not written in stone) I'm looking at April 15th ... since it's the only Sat in April that doesn't have a CUSA tourney going on at any lakes in the state, and we have several contributing members that fish the CUSA circuit. And yes, I know it's the first day of Spring Turkey season ... but, that can't be helped.
And, once we've set the date & begun the proceedings of getting things together, the only reason we would cancel would be "dangerous conditions" (thunderstorms, or a flooded lake). That's my call, and I usually make the call by the Thur. before.
Rickie ... we rent the COE picnic shelter at Holmes Bend Marina. Chucky, & me and my partners rent a 3br cabin at Holmes Bend Marina, and boat slips at the dock for our Fri-Sun stay.
Now, Holmes Bend does have what they call Kamper Kabins, up the road about a mile, that are 1 room deals (basically sleeping quarters only). And they've just completed a new lodge w/1br suites. Holmes Bend Boat Dock - Houseboating on Green River Lake in Kentucky Houseboats
There is a campground just up the road, but it's not owned/run by the Holmes Bend Marina people ... and I don't know when they open for business.
About 10mi down the road from Holmes Bend Marina is Columbia, Ky ... and they have a motel called Dreamland Motel that is fairly cheap, and of course the Best Western Motel. (Chucky & I have stayed in both places before)
On the opposite end of the lake from Holmes Bend, there are some other marina's that have lodging, and the state park campground. Google Maps will give you a good overview of the lake and locations of those places.
There are two places to get minnows, that are close to Holmes Bend ... and the marina sells them, too. Green River Bait & Grocery at the corner of West Egypt Rd and Knifely Rd --- and Patterson's Bait & Grocery at the corner of Knifely Rd & Elkhorn Rd (which is owned by Kenny Patterson - member name "Skinny" ) But, coming from your direction, the Green River Bait & Grocery would be the closest, as it's only 8mi from the marina.
Thanks Pappy...
Dux and I will see what we can come up with ...
When do you feel would be a good time/place during the Fling for me to do an electronics seminar and Dux do a cranking seminar ...??
Day of the Fling ?? Day before??
Rickie
Pappy, post anything you need help with and I will do all I can. I'm close to the lake and will help setup if needed.
Well, you see Rickie .... that's the problem. Only a few people will be there the day before (or after) and there isn't really all that much time during the day of .... unless these "seminars" could be held outside at the picnic shelter or the parking lot just below it.
I'm going to be in contact with Chucky in the next couple of days, and we will discuss all these things. I will let everyone know what the plan is, for now, later this week.
$155/night for one of the two bedroom cottages at Holmes Bend. We've stayed at the Best Western in Columbia before when visiting family and it's relatively close to Homes Bend. The multiple hotels in Campbellsville are closer to the state park ramp if launching there. You can always rent a campsite at the state park and pitch a tent or have a biddy bring a travel trailer-they book up early as the weather starts to warm up so keep that in mind if you go this route.
If I drive in from Paducah I'm going to make a weekend out of the trip. Through trial and (mostly) error I taught myself longline crankbait trolling for crappie and walleye on Green 9 years ago and never turn down an opportunity to fish my old home waters.
