This is an opinion question. That being said, I like my best fish finder at the trolling motor. The logic behind that decision is that I seldom cast while planed out but do like a fairly decent depth finder there. On the other hand I often cast from the trolling motor and like to have the unit that gives the most detailed information there. That is my opinion and how I come to that opinion.
Definately do not get rid of any of the units ...
Keep it for full screen mapping ...

example, I have at the console a 597 for GPS mapping and a 998 for scouting views on them can be reversed except SI. up front I have a 798 that's linked back to the 998 and can share way points also antenna. 798 doesn't need external antenna but the high speed is a little better at slow speeds.
I think this is what Rickie is talking about
I suppose I should have read the question more carefully :)
I would keep all 3 and put the Helix 12 up front and the other 2 at console if it was me I've got a 899 SI up front and a 859 DI at console and I'm thinking about getting another DI unit for the front and moving my SI to my console along with my DI unit allready there that's my 2 cents worth.
I'm assuming the Helix 12 has SI, I would put the Helix and 899 at the console, the 12 for SI with the 899 for mapping, move 999 to the bow. I use to have a 998 at the console, I now have a 1198, 2 inches makes a huge difference for SI in my opinion so 4 inches would be even better.
javlin,I HAVE A DI UP FRONT AND A 1199SI AND 859DI AT BACK,IF YOU PUT THEM BOTH AT BACK YOU MAY HAVE TO DO MUCH CHANGING TO GET INTERFERENCE FROM BOTH UNITS OUT OF IT,I FINALLY GOT 95 PERCENT OUT OF IT
Mounting any xducer directly to the side of a SI xducer can partially block the SI beam on the obstruction side ...
This scenario is more pertinent if the SI xducer is HB (HB SI beam reaches all the way to the water's surface above horizontal from the SI xducer housing) ...
This can be avoided by mounting the 2nd xducer a little higher than the SI xducer ... or 1 xducer in front of the other ...

I would put the Helix 12 on the dash reason being if I am at the helm I am in search mode and I want my best Depth finder in that location to find areas to fish. Once on structure the 999 will be more then enough for fishing vertical.
Lowrance way to go
