I read the sticky on panfish rods and bluegill rods...
Looking for a fine bluegill spinning rod for 2# line. I've used 4# line for 55-years and now want to downsize and try out a 2# rig for a change (no noodle rods). What do you like? Thanks

What's your budget?
What ever I want to spend
Read my post on JDM rods relating to panfish and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Lot of info in that post.

I'm liking the St Croix Avid rods with lifetime warranty, made in USA.
I don't see any JDM rods on ebay.
Thanks
The ones I like are the
St Croix Panfish Series , anf their Trout Series . A little over $100 for most models , I like the six footers .
Also I just recently bought and fished the Daiwa Procyon 6' in UL , and the 6' Daiwa Presso , the two piece . These are around $60 on EBay . Nice rods
I can cast a 1/64 jig and Trout Magnet about 50-60' with these and 2# line .
When I use a weighted float and jig I sometimes move up to the 7' models and 4# line . The 6'9" SC Panfish is nice and would work good for both ways . Gillchaser
Here's you one . Out of my price range , but I bet it'd be an awesome Rod . This is an American dealer who is starting to import some rods from Japan . Gillchaser

I was referring to the Daiwa Presso rods , he's added some more since the last time we checked . I like the four piece Daiwa.
nothing less than 6 ft. prefer 6'6''or 7' . I use Okuma and Browning "air stream" bought 2 airstream from this site . Guy was going to st croix models . No doubt they are awesome but I sure like his used stuff at half the price . MAINLY USE 4 LB. TEST .
No Browning rods like you mention on ebay right now. I'm an old guy and I prefer a solid cork grip like the old days.
The Avid is what I'm going with. I normally use 4#, lots of bass in my fishing hole and they will grab a tiny lure in a second. I do want to try out the 2# also.
I have a 5' and a 6' Avid in UL . They are great rods . I've mainly fished them with 4# .
Since lately , I've been throwing 1/64 Trout Magnets almost exclusively on 2#, for distance , I'll have to give the Avids a try with 2# and the TM's .
I've found a fast action rod casts farther than a moderate. Although the Avids are labeled as fast , they seem more of a moderate fast after using some of the Daiwa UL rods lately .
The Panfish and Trout series seem more a true fast action also .
Would definitely recommend the six footer also . Gillchaser
Interesting. Seeing as you have an unlimited budget, most of the suggestions here already are quite valid. However, where the rubber hits the road, I find it difficult to surpass the B n' M lineup of rods; especially the 7' Sam Heaton's Super Sensitive (SHSS). It will do anything you want and they handle 2# test mono or braid effortlessly. Retailing for around the $50.00 mark too. JMO. :)
I took my 6' UL St Croix Avid , my 6'9" SC UL Panfish Series , and an inexpensive 5'6" Daiwa Triforce , along with three Shimano 500 reels , a Symetre , a Sahara , and a Sienna .
The Sienna was loaded with 4# PLine , the other two with 2# PLine . As I fished i would swap the reels amongst the rods to get a good idea how each cast , throwing a 1/64th Trout Magnet .
I was surprised ny the outcome . The Avid was the slowest action of the three, followed by the Panfish , then the Daiwa .
I was able to cast farther with the Daiwa not only with the 2# test line , but with the 4# as well . I was casting farther with the Daiwa with 4# than I was with the other two with with 2# line.
The St Croix rods have their place , casting light jigs with floats , but when I want to cast light jigs without floats , I'll be taking my cheap Daiwa and its sisters , a Procyon, and a Presso . Just my observation, you may find differently . Gillchaser
Thanks for a detailed report on the rods... that's the kind of info we need to know when fishing with these light lures.
Thanks
One more thing, casting distance is great but what about sensitivity? I want to experiment with a couple of rods mentioned here.
The Avids are sensitive rods, as are Loomis. Alphahawk raves about the sensitivity of the JDM rods, though.
I haven't made the plunge into JDM yet, but I'm about to.
I don't try to push JDM rods on anyone. They are expensive. I don't talk about them that much except to tell what rod I was using in a fishing report....or if someone asks me about them. There is a great article over at Finesse Fishing about JDM gear...and why it is not sold in the USA. As someone said "You can't explain JDM gear until someone fishes with it". I...or no one else will poo poo someones 30 dollar rod...but on many forums you talk about spending 150-400 dollars on an UL rod and it invokes all kinds of negative response. I have fished nearly all the rods that have been mentioned here.....maybe some of them were older versions.....but I have fished a ton of UL rods since 2001. I have only been fishing JDM rods for about 3 years. From 2001-2012 I was on the water 5 days a week 365 a year. Then knee replacement...getting older and not liking the cold...so I have slowed a little. The best US market rods I have purchased were a Phenix Elixir and Loomis trout rods. They were fine rods...no doubt. But for around 165 dollars you can get an UL rod out of Japan that will blow the doors off of many Loomis trout rods....I have not fished the 450 dollar Loomis trout rods......those in the 200-250 range I have. Just ordered some new gear last night. I am not made of money....fishing is a passion....a religion to me.....so that is what I choose to spend my money on. I cast for fish 99 percent of the time. I have made sure I will not run out of JDM rods....I have a shotgun case full of them. Plus it is kind of a hobby to watch the exchange rate of the dollar to yen...trying to figure when is best time to buy with the exchange rate and watching for sales. When the Japanese have a sale you better get on it...they have real sales and once it is over it is over...subject to never be back again. Over Christmas I purchased two new Major Craft rods that were 20 percent off and the exchange rate was very good...saved a lot of money over normal price. Two years ago I had my eye on a rod that was normally 500 bucks...it was on sale at Christmas for 250 dollars.....I waited and waited....my wife told me I should buy. Well when made up my mind it was back up to 500 bucks...still is to this very day....I was...and still am sick over that one. If you are wanting what are probably the best UL rods on the planet Japan is the place to get them. Plus you will be dealing with actions on UL rods not seen here in the USA.

I probably would pay a good price for a nice rod, but I'd have to try one out first.
Alpha hawk. I too have got into the Jdm ultralight and I can say I am not the same. I was fishing a Phenix elixir 7ft fast action. Try the Major Craft Basspara and major Craft Skyroad 7'6 mebura 2-6lb. All I can say is wow. Next rod that just came in was a Diawa Gekkabijin 7ft and in the mail is a Major Craft x-ride s682H Aji. Jdm is not for everyone but once you try it. You will never be the same.
I have the SkyRoad....which I gave to my son.....also gave my son a Basspara. I have the Gekkabijin MX Ajing UL solid tip.....an amazing rod. The SkyRoad is what started me down this road. I am all set for another great season of UL fishing. Don't have any X-Ride rods but know they are great.....I have the Truzer 6' 5" UL-H model. I don't need anymore but I know I will get some more to try out. I have a MegaBass ShoreLuck Limited that I have only used a few times...it just looks so good I can't bring myself to use it.....but I am sure it will see some use this year....will probably wind up giving it to my son. If I ever get over this sinus infection and bronchitis I will be back out fishing.

There's so many JDM rods, even on ebay, it's confusing. How in the world do you pick just one to get started with?
I suggest you read http://www.crappie.com/crappie/panfi...ating-panfish/ Then start doing research over at tackletour. Watch videos about using JDM gear. I can't tell you how many videos of Russians catching huge trout...and other fish...using JDM rods that they had stressed out with braided line much heavier than what the rod was designed for....these rods look fragile...and will break as any rod can...but they are much tougher than they look. Then decide what specie of fish you want to catch and ask questions...an Ajing rod is IMHO not good for crappie......but is fine for Gills....while a Mebaru rod is great for Gills and crappie. Area UL..or L trout rods are great for Gills and crappie.

I don't know about ya'll ... but, if any of these rods are lighter in weight than my Mitchell Zero Gravity rods, then I'd be scared to fish with them ... because I'd probably forget I had it in my hand and into the drink it would go  :Rofl
To me the Avids I have are not as sensitive as the St Croix Panfish and Trout series or some of the US Daiwas I've tried .
I don't see how any Rod with full cork can be as sensitive as a Rod built with the Minima reel seats with the exposed blanks .
Most of my Daiwas are rated 1-4# line where as the SC's are 4-8# .
Most of the JDM stuff is out of my price range as is the Loomis .
One thing I've figured out over my years of fishing
UL spinning equipment is , one rod will not fish all lures or methods .
I have UL rods from 4.5' to 9.0' .
I think an extra fast 5'8-6' UL rod would be about perfect for casting light jigs with 2# line . I'd even go as short as 5'6" if the taper is right .
I just bought a 5'6" inexpensive Daiwa that's has a little more backbone in the bottom half of the blank that going to be a great little wacky worm Rod for throwing 3" Senko style worms and 1/16 Beetlespin type lures . Gillchaser
You are correct about one UL not being right for every situation. The Japanese make rods according to specie....and fishing situation. UL rods here are not made that way. I bought a Daiwa Presso....sight unseen.....made for US market...fished with it one time and gave it to my son. The Presso out of Japan are not anything close to the one they market here.
