And what is Pa going to do? Wonder why? Did they give a reason? Can you post a link please. Sorry I missed this post before.
It is on Facebook under pymatuning fisherman page it was stated wco Doyle he said that PA was waiting for Ohio to pass it first . One of the license distributors said they didn't get word yet
Can't get it to link but the person that posted it is Chad Doyle with the title of wco PA fish and boat commission
Wco Doyle also said PA already approved it but had to wait for Ohio to pass it before enforcing it
Shenango is next. Possibly next year according to talks going on.
Yea, hope they move on it. When they wanted to go to 20 hp on the lake, they had to wait on Ohio to pass the law too. You would think that the two states would work together, and pass laws at the same time for Pymy. Guess it is like other things, no communication, when wanting to do things. So, it isn't a law in the fishing books for this year starting 2017, so they can't enforce it until 2018.
Go on PA .Gov they just officially released a statement as too why they are doing it and they say effective March 1st
I feel it should be a part of the year thing like during ice season . Because most fish are tightly schooled up during that time and with word of mouth or social Media certain areas can get hammered . This year looks to be a bust for ice season . Some lakes could use a break . I just hope if the reg isn't working they step back and research other options . One example of panfish enhancement not working was high point lake for perch . The lake is loaded with pike, pickeral and some large bass . You could fish your but off and maybe get a few keepers but it was a joke. The problem there was a perch had a slim chance making 7 inches let alone 9 with all the pike and bass . Now another lake with enhancements and no pike
Or muskie ,walleye ECT I regularly catch slabs were before the regs it was mostly dinks .
I also think people need to change there tactics just like for walleye . People want everything easy without putting time in to gain success . The ones complaining are probably going to the same spot every time out throwing a bobber and minnow and not doing well like they did twenty years ago . So first thing they do is cry to the commission instead of trying something new.
Another thing if they want to increase size structure would be making it were crappie 14 inches and up need to be released , they are the breeders.sorry for rambling on lol.

New Regulations for Pymatuning Reservoir Take Effect March 1
HARRISBURG, Pa. (Jan. 26) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is reminding anglers who fish for Crappies in Crawford County’s Pymatuning Reservoir that new creel and size limits will take effect beginning on March 1, restricting them to 20 fish per day and a nine-inch minimum size.
An identical regulation change also takes effect March 1 on the Ohio side of the reservoir, located in Ashtabula County. The fisheries in the reservoir are jointly managed by the PFBC and the Ohio Division of Wildlife under the Pymatuning Compact.
Both agencies will be posting signs around the lake informing anglers of the new regulation.
Currently there are no restrictions on the harvest of panfish, including Crappies. The reservoir experienced a large increase in Crappie abundance and quality between 2001 and 2012, which led to dramatic increases in angler pressure. Since 2012, the abundance of Crappies has decreased, while angler effort continued to increase, yielding an unsatisfactory fishery for anglers.
Based on this decline, Ohio approached the PFBC to discuss implementing a more restrictive angling regulation.
The PFBC held a public meeting in early 2016, during which participants indicated overwhelming support for the proposed change. Similarly, a 2014 angler opinion survey performed by the Ohio Division of Wildlife found that 88% of the anglers interviewed agreed with the implementation of harvest restrictions on Crappies on the reservoir.
“These regulations have been used to improve Crappie size structure and density in other Pennsylvania lakes where they have been applied and will likely have similar positive results in Pymatuning Reservoir,” said Jason Detar, chief of the PFBC’s Division of Fisheries Management. “Growth rates for Crappies in the reservoir are well above the Pennsylvania state average, suggesting that the forage base is sufficient to support an increase in Crappie density.”
Detar added that the regulation’s effect on Crappies will be closely monitored through annual trap net surveys and through age and growth statistics, which are computed annually. In addition, angler effort, catch and harvest are monitored during the Ohio Division of Wildlife’s triannual creel survey.
Pymatuning Reservoir is Pennsylvania’s largest inland lake and is located in Crawford County and Ashtabula County, OH. The reservoir is located in Pymatuning State Park, the Commonwealth’s largest state park.

Us guys that are catching the bigger crappies will still catch the bigger crappies. Guys coming from a hundred miles will think twice about traveling that far to target just twenty crappies. They'll have to supplement their catch with more gills and perch so where do we go from there. There's no limit on those two. What then?
Those same years didn't the walleye catch diminish . Now they have increased walleye so more competion for food . Like you said crappie are still there they just changed some due to the increase in walleye . This sounds like the situation Minnesota was having with upper red lake . It will all balance out if they dont screw it up. I agree that creel is too low . Small business will loose money with less anglers making the trek.
Also how many dead 8 7/8 inch crappie will be floating on top dead after being hooked to deep . I seen this on high point with perch ,and other lakes were restrictions are on crappie and sunfish
Where can I find the new ohio regulations

oobuck, Ohio and Pa agreed to this. Suggest you go to your states fishing site, the info should be there.
Really when you talk about other panfish, maybe they should lower the catch limit on them also, to see if it would help them also. Actually, I wouldn't have a problem with them lowering the crappie limit on all lakes in Penna.
