Loudon 1/21/17

I fished Loudon for the first time Saturday. Had to come on and off the lake a few times for various reasons, but I managed to hunt down a few, longlining with jigs. Boxed 7 (and a real nice one got off when my boy was bringing him in) and threw at least that many smalls back. Fish were all in 10-15 fow. Creek temp was 53. Odd color combo - they would only hit reds/pinks (red chart, bubblegum chart) or blues/blacks (blue black chart, blue chart, black chart). Highlight of the day was pulling in this nice perch. Didn't even know they were in that lake. My first TN perch. All in all, not a killer day, but a good time and pretty decent for a new lake, and I always love being able to put my boys on some fish.

I love perch. I usually catch a couple every trip on Tellico but most are small. I've caught 2, 12" perch so far this year. I hope these tasty little fish get thick in our lakes.

I'd like to see them stock them in douglas or Norris. That's about the only lakes I fish.

I usually fish Douglas, but I recently moved right down the road from Loudon so I'm trying to learn it purely for convenience. Love to see perch, though. Tasty for sure. This one measured out at 12".

Yeah, Pantastic, I was gonna buy a new razor, but then I needed some more crappie stuff, so... You gonna be at the show? If so when you going?

Also, forgot to mention the perch measured out at 12", so guess it was a TARP.

I see these post on catching perch and I am unfamiliar with them. Could you guys give me some info on these? Do they taste as good as crappie or walleye? What about filetability (new word)? THanks

I've eat them never caught them. They taste good and as long as you keep the bigger ones you can filet them

Lots of people love eating perch. Of the three, I'd personally say walleye and crappie are better, but perch is a close third. I'd probably put them par with Bluegill (which I love).

I think I will be doing the Bass Pro Crappie Madness this year instead.

Nice perch. Normally if you find 1 there are more near by. Use to fish for them all the time up north. I still think they are the best eating fish. Easy to fillet even the smaller ones but a 12 incher is very nice. Try wax worms and a very small jig for them.
