Toledo Bend gathering food/supply list

The new year is here and the gathering is next month. As with the previous events, we'll have a potluck Friday evening, and the fish fry will be Saturday evening. Both to be held in the lodge as before. We eat the best when it comes to crappie.com gatherings. The lodge/enclosed pavilion has been reserved for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. So, whatever you folks want to do on Thursday, is good for me. I can do another chili as last year if you want.

Friday will be my crawfish etouffee as before. Saturday will be fried gator, will also bring a bag of crappies fillets just in case. I'll also bring my small fryer and oil. Malt vinegar, cocktail sauce, and ketchup. Once again I'll have the cellos there for tasting, and a bottle for everyone to take home. And of course, I'll have the 90 quart cooler in the back of my truck as before. Ann will post what she will be bringing.

Everyone is invited, not just members. Food, fun, and fellowship for sure!

Randy....if you like, I will make this a sticky and keep a running list of who is bringing what.... the list will be broken down into (1) Friday night, (2) Saturday night, and (3) Miscellaneous... (paper plates, paper towels, big aluminum pans, ketchup, oil, utensils, fryer, batter, etc)......Danny gave me some of these items and I will post what I have soon.....no need to post a night for these items...

Everyone, please post on this thread what you are bringing and for what night.... if you change your mind on the item or the night I can edit what you post later...

never mind. I see it in the original thread.

i think bill is still planning on his potato salad and i believe i will bring home made cookies.......for both nights.

Linda and I decided to make a shrimp jambalaya for Friday night.

Chili it is for Thursday evening from me. Those attending might want to add some cheese, or even better, a cornbread. Maybe some hot dogs and buns for the chili. I do need a head count attending Thursday so I make enough.

It would be nice if someone would make the rice for the the crawfish etoufee for me Friday evening. Got's lots of slicing and dicing to do for that.

For the Saturday fry, I'll be wearing myself out with the cast iron dutch oven frying everything for everyone. An additional fryer, or two, will help. French fries, or better yet, hush puppies would work nicely.

You can tote all sorts of things in a cooler with ice, I do it regular. Then prepare once there.

I got the cornbread for Thursday night (you just know that is gonna be good ) and the rice for Friday night....

Last year I saw someone adding sides in their bowl of chili...I think it was cheese, cornbread and sour cream....I tried it and liked it....anyone remember what those sides were.....

Ground the ancho chili this afternoon for the chili. Removed the seeds and ribs beforehand. A full dehydrator makes about two pints. This folks is real chili powder:

Many of you folks like the way I make a real West Texas chili I noticed from last year. Come to think of it, I may pick up some of Frank's tamales from Zwolle to cover with. We'll see. Shouldn't have typed that, now have my mouth watering.

I'll do a couple of chess pies with pecans on top for Saturday night. Still thinking about Friday night.

I'll do some kind of dessert for each night. I'm thinking a pineapple upside down cake for Friday and a pecan pie for Saturday night if I can talk Angie into making the pecan pie, for some reason, mine never turn out.

Well I got the wife to tell what we are bringing and looks like a couple pies.

On Thursday, Ann and I will be at Pepe's (formally El Giro's) in Toledo Town. You guys know the place. That's where we met from the start until things changed a couple of years ago to move to the pavilion. Come join us.

Anne, I'll answer on the bowls and he had said he needed one more pack of plates earlier. Yes and plenty of plastic ware. Tons of chili spoons. lol. Gonna surely miss being there.

Ann....this part of Danny's post...

"I have given the stuff I was storing to Bruce and he will bring it up. I had bought a few things and I think all that is needed is a box of gallon ziplocs, large aluminum trays and one more pack of large paper plates. No plastic ware, bowls or cups needed."

I have the ziploks on the FOOD/NEED LIST but I do not know why we need them if we are not frying....what do you & Randy think....

also, looks like I overlooked the large paper plates so we still need them...

also, I cancelled the large aluminum pans since we are not frying....what do you and Randy think....

And another UPDATE on supplies.....I just went thru all the boxes of supplies that Danny gave me and noted this....

1) we need "quart" not gallon ziploc bags.
2) we do not need any plates....we have about 130 large, a pack of medium and some saucers.
3) as of yet, we do not have a coffee pot. we do have the styrofoam cups...I guess it is up for debate...do we really need one...
4) we have about 13 large aluminum pans if needed..
5) we have plenty aluminum foil.
6) we have plenty paper towels.

Bruce, there has been a coffee pot in the pavilion. If not this time, we have a little 4 cupper that we travel with. I'll bring the coffee, cream, and sugar.

Bruce i could use a large aluminum pan and some tin foil to warm the bbq up in. I think there is a stove with a oven in the pavilion.

I'll have you folks know that she only does that for my birthday. When she means a coconut cream pie - that's what it is. Not a coconut pie with meringue on it, but whipped cream. I taught her that many years ago :)
