Phantom made me do it !!

Had a friend call with an open boat last night & wantin to go shrimpin. Put in at Riverbreeze at 9, tide was still comin in so we poled around a few islands with no flounder to be found. Once the tide went slack we went back to the spot & set-up, started to catch a few here & there, all decent size. It was quiet at first but the later it got the more boats started to show up, it was busy but not crowded. The shrimp slowed down & I knew the alarm clock was gonna come quick in the morning so we packed it up at 2:30. They were not all monsters & wish we coulda stayed longer but this guber still gotta work. Caught 60-80, enough for us to have a good snack. Might go back this weekend but the tides will be late.

Should be about 4 hours left of outgoing tide at sundown on Saturday in Oak Hill.:biggrin:ThumbsUp Planning to get over there hopefully around noon and fish till about 5 and then move and get set up on the shrimps. Only problem might be the ENE winds, really prefer S or SW winds. But we planning to give it a go again.

I thing they should be from the southeast

Long as it has the S in it! Your probably right though as that would blow em off the flats into the ICW.

I went to RRB again last night = got 80 nice-uns by 11pm.......
Was waiting for them to run like they did the other night = didn't happen,
just one here, one there ....
I got my same spot as the other day, and, got to say, felt bad for them other guys
around me = they were getting a lot less just 20 feet away.....
That's what happened to me last year = get there too late to get "the honey spot"
and wind up watching someone else swooping them etc, etc, etc, etc .........

You guys really impressed me with your determination..... I'd fall asleep by 8:30 or 9....:Rofl. Keep them pictures coming!

It looks like north winds for Sat but very light, had a decent southeast wind last night.

Might go again tonight or this weekend, Sat/Sun morning may be good from 2-3AM til daylight.

I will let you know what I find if any.

Ok so I might be going crazy from the lack of sleep but my buddy talked me into it again last night.
I went home after work yesterday & did the usual routine, went to bed at 8PM & back up at 1AM
On the water & catchin shrimp at 130, stayed until 430, tide was still movin good but the shrimp slowed down.
Headed shrimp til 530, then layed back down, back up at 7am time to go to work:yikes

The water was a little dirtier than last night but still ok, lots of trash(grass/leaves)
Did better but still not a bucket full, probably had a little more than twice as much from last night(couple 100)
The guys around us were catchin more in their box nets than they were dippin, so they might
be worth the hassle is ya got em. We have not been using 1 just dippin, we were around channel marker 75

Interesting to me. Just visited my sister in New Smyrna Beach, she and my brother in law live on one of the numerous canals. They have a small dock that is covered. My brother in law asked if we wanted to fish and my wife and I jumped at the chance. So Kathy and Randy take us to few sites to show us the area and then we stop at a beach side bait shop and buy a dozen shrimp for 5 bucks and head back to the house.
In the 2 hours we were gone the canal had changed from a semi muddy looking river to some kind of swirl you might get at Starbucks. Randy had no idea what was going on with the canal. This was in November, not long after the hurricane went thru the area. We tried fishing anyway with no luck but what surprised me was the liveliness of the shrimp. They were nice sized, they didn't just sit in the bucket but thrashed around a bit and made some racket.
So those shrimp were good sized but would they not be good eaters (5 bucks a dozen), not a shrimp lover but curious.
Last thing I've been curious about, how do you shrimp?

Hope you faired better than us. No fish and no shrimp. Hopefully the late tide was better than the early tide. Did stop by and see Ginny and Terry on the way out.

I tryed to call them in for you Mike, guess my shrimp call is broken.

There are several ways to do it, we anchor in or near the channel with underwater lights out & a large hoop net with small holes that tapers down into a long sock. Some people use green lights or white lights, growing up we always used white - the green lights are kinda new. This time we used both green & white lights. As the shrimp go by in the outgoing tide you try to dip them as you see them. You can only dip what you can see, so some also use a box net behind the boat that will catch the shrimp that are deeper. The box net is usually 3x5 with weights on bottom & floats on top, it has the same type net that tapers down into a sock. Certain times of the year you can cast net them when they are up near the bank in large groups. It's work but worth it if ya really like shrimp, I've always had fun doing it but it will hurt the back & is hard on the sleep schedule especially with a j-o-b.

I went to the freshwater for some specks

I think I am going to wait till next full moon at least to let them filter their way from Indian River lagoon down into Oak Hill before trying em again.

I will let you know if we go again or if I hear of anything happening
