Nope I don't. The section joints and eyes on the rod get you close enough.
Set your unit on flasher if it has it and watch it drop to what ever depth you want!
I am a semi professional race car driver and a amateur tattoo artist so I know what im talking about what I do is like I do everything else just guess
Mine came marked at 5' and 10'.
i use white electrical tape on my 16' PSTs, starting @4' through 12' with 2' intervals. 14' is at the hook keeper. im not gonna tell u how to find 16'.
Bottom line to this thread IMO, is do what gives YOU the most confidence. If you have confidence in your setup, bait, equipment, electronics, etc., you'll fish better and catch more fish. Doesn't matter what some one else thinks or does. If you do the things that YOU like, you'll catch more fish. PMA=CMF!!!
Same with the most consistent tourney fishermen. They go out there CONFIDENT that they'll catch fish. Their confidence makes them better, not their gear.
Asking questions about what other do will give different ideas..you can skin a cat many ways...some are more efficient than others. My methods work...but I will change if someone has a better way
What is your way ?
Agreed
Yup 2,4,6,8,10,12, and end of rod is 14 for me.
What do you mark them with..I tried a couple of tapes, that came off pretty quick, or got loose, and in the way
I use different colored electrical tape. Has been on my poles 4 years now but some tag ends are starting to show themselves. No big deal.....just reapply.
Flourescent green duck tape. 1/2" wide strips.
On my second set of rods with no issues, and the color seems to work for me in all light and water conditions.

I first use Eratosthenese geographic mathematical formula from 200BC to determine the circumference of the earth. Then I use the location determined by his mathematical formula to figure out the distance across the waterway divided by the depth I am fishing. Then I finally realize it only works when the first measurement can only be made at solar noon...if the sun is out. :biggrin:juggle
It then occurs to me that this is way too complicated, takes too much time, and cuts into my fishing trip. So, I default to my comfort zone of keeping it simple and having confidence in the water. Or, I know the length of my rod and sometimes hold it vertical to get the desired length of line.
I don't mark. I experiment and let the fish tell me their desired depth. I certainly enjoy and appreciate all the great ideas posted earlier. Sorry for the diatribe but Eratosthenes was a pure geographic genius for his time.
Colored duct tape from hobby lobby, think it's 1in wide.On spiderrig poles every foot marked, jig poles are mark 1ft and 2 ft from the reels. On jig poles it sure is nice when you want to jig 20ft in 22ft of water with a 10 ft pole. All you do is set your jig to the butt of the pole and pull off 2ft 5 times, lol.Sure beats the guessing game some people do,lol

Bill Dance showed a simple measuring system on his only Sardis crappie fishing trip I watched. You are about 6' tall, hold the rod close to center of your body, hold the line in one hand and release line from the reel. Pull line out just past your shoulder, should be about 1 foot. Pull line out just past your elbow, should be about 2 foot. Pull line out as far as you can, should be 3 foot.
I tried it, I'm 5'11". From center of my neck to just off shoulder is 11", to elbow is 19", to tip of fingers is 35 1/2".
I don't think fish can read a ruler..... Not being a smart a**, but I think I can guestimate good enough to be within a few inches of a fish. Crappie tend to stack vertically, even if suspended. So if some are at 6 foot, I bet others are at 5 and 7. Also why I run two hooks when trolling, and almost always troll with different depths (again guestimates) on each pole. Same reason I use a shotgun when bird hunting. This ain't rocket science, guys. (or geography/geometry)
