Well, One of the triggers. If you guys are going to make me buy a new glass boat, I have to have a place to park it. Signed the contract today. Work starts next week on the new shop/garage. 50x30x12 with a 20 foot extension. Will look like this when finished.Attachment 255310

A new garage for my Excel and tackle starts in the planning stage in the spring. My current garage door will only close when we have pushed the boat in slightly cross ways of the bay. My wife is starting to get tired of the routine and is warming up to the garage idea. I'm thinking a 24x36 will work.
They say you can't hide money. In your case, it don't matter if that's true or not, cause the way you spending it ya ain't gonna have none to hide anyhow. :)

I do have a plan, though. Got my fifth child out of college this summer. Did without boats, four wheelers, and pickups for 30 years. Plan to get all my "toys" purchased while I am still working, work another 5 years or so, then retire and play till I die! Plan is coming together just fine.

I had mine built 40 years ago...was going 25X30 but everyone said bigger so I had a 30X50 put up....later added 15 X50 on one side and then later added a 14X16 on the front for a office and guess what....its still too small lol
That's true but you can build one you can't afford. I've always told my wife I wish we had an 800 square foot house and a 40,000 square foot garage. At this stage of my life I have come to realize if I don't use something within a 5 year period, it needs to go. The 24x36 is strictly for boat and tackle.Quote:

I had a 30' X 40' built for the boat & tractor. If I want to take anything else out of the shop I have to take either the boat or tractor out first.
That's why I am having a 16 foot door put under the front awning and a 10 foot on the side at the back. I will be able to get in and out of the back without moving anything at the front.Quote:

I built a 30x50x10 with a 12x50 shed on the front over the doors. I put in heat and air to make it more comfortable to work in. I wanted to go 12 high but I wanted to match the house. I wish I had gone 40wide though.

I built a 30x70x12. The enclosed shop area is 30x40 and the overhang is 30x30. I have one 20' door on the front end and a 10' on the rear end. My advice to you is to go ahead and wall up the inside with galvalume and to also seal the floor before you put anything inside. It sure helps to keep it nice and clean. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2017...a3a12ee3ba.jpg

Nice looking shop.
One big thing i failed to mention about my shop situation; our house is in a restricted subdivision. My lot is 0.6/ acre and any building separate from the house has to match the construction and looks of the house. We have brick and a 12/12 roof. I can get by with matching the roofing to our shingles and having vinyl siding that matches the trim on the house. A nice steel building in out.

I am almost positive that it is the same material. It is anchored to a pearling at the bottom and top. If I did it again I would have installed another pearling at the 4' or 5' height mark. That would've allowed me to anchor heavy loads directly to the walls.

Put all the insulation in it that you can afford. That is one thing I wish I had done different on mine. It will pay in the long run if you try to heat or cool it. My electric bill for my shop and my wife's beauty shop $60 a month on level pay and the gas bill for my shop and the house runs $35 a month on level pay. So it does not cost much to heat and cool one.
