Most bait shops sell golden shiners.
DonDon That reminds me of 20 plus years ago there was an elderly lady at the bait shop and she would say " How miny minnies you all want" brings back good times with my friend:Rofl
Minnards DD...... Minnards
Whatever Jigflinger says.
LOL, glad I could bring back memories. I'm trying to find fatheads for my pond actually. After this drought and so many pond drying up, I was worried about mine. I should be good to go as I still have about 5 or so feet of water in the deep end. I'm putting in 1000 Copper nose Bream. Guy said he mixes in about 15% redear in his ponds because they eat bacteria, so I should have about 15% redear when I get them. Not to bad, $200 for 1000 4-5 inch bream. I want the fatheads in there so next year when I add the Bass, I'll have plenty of forage for them
I order my fish and my fathead minnows from the local farm feed store....fish truck runs once a month.....i have 5 ponds on my place.

DD, need to check into some pond management stuff from MDWFP. I used to be a member at a highly managed "bass ranch" and was really surprised at some of the practices they had in place. They put in some kind of shad each spring that would die off in the winter, what was left, it kept the shad from over populating. They also pulled the water down in the winter to control moss and other water vegetation in the shallows.
I've checked with 2 so far and they didn't have any fatheads. I'll keep looking.
I already have. I went to a 3 hour seminar on farm pond management here a couple months ago. They talked about how to keep the pond balanced as far as fish population, fertilizing, things like that. I also down loaded the booklet they have out about ponds. Some good reading
It is, good luck man. Sounds like your pond will hold up to a drought so you should be good to go. Clean it out good tho, one or two BIG bass can wipe out your efforts.
DD, there is a guy in Byram that probably has them. He stocks and maintains ponds all over this area. PM me and I'll get you his contact info.

DD now would be a good time to completely drain and dig it back out to the original depth. Those older ponds usually have a lot of silt. Could also possibly enlarge the pond and add gravel beds. I would consider doing this before putting a lot of money into baitfish and stock fish.

It's actually not that old. 8-9 years old and hasn't filled in much.
I swam the whole thing this summer to see what all was going on. It's an acre when the water is low and an acre and a quarter at normal pool. Around 8 feet deep along the dam and them half the pond is 4-5 feet deep.
Think the shallow end which is stumps is about 2-3 feet deep.
I lost 3 feet of water in this drought so that part was dry land but it's filling up now FINALLY.
Main thing is I need to get those Warmouths out of it. That's why I want to get the 4-5 inch Coppernose and redear to stock it with. To big for the warmouths to eat them.
Bet I caught 30-40 in a couple hours on my flyrod when I was trying to see what was in it. Nothing but those Warmouths, nothing else in it. Heck I have some of those that are eating size. LOL
I see now. I was thinking it was a much older pond. You could treat it with chemicals to get rid of the warmouths before stocking with your desired fish. My thinking is if you don't get rid of them they will always be a problem. You certainly don't want to be feeding them along with the coppernose, unless you're trying to produce a state record goggle-eye. While that upper end is still dry it would be a great time to add pea gravel beds. The bream love the stuff.

I do need bad to get rid of them. Whatever I have to do. I also need top lime it and I had already planned to put in a couple gravel beds. Still trying to figure out where. the bottom is a sandy clay already but I would like to get in a couple truck beds of gravel
