Hang in heir it will get better. You coulda done worse. at least you caught fish . But that quick trip could have yielded a bucket full also. You never know u til you go. go often fish every chance you get.
I understand. Bass fishing has always been easier for me than crappie fishing, but the challenge is part of the fun. Bass, crappie, bream, stripe they are all a lot of fun and time on the water is always relaxing.
I've always been after catfish.right time of year I can get on them.catch them when other folks can't.i just recently got interested in crappie fishing.just realized it takes more talent and patience.im gonna give it through the spring and hope for more luck. Lol.i just love catching fish.
You sound like the rest of us. Patience "grass hoppa". It will come. Most importantly, have fun!
Tuff sledding for me right now also. Skunked three trips in a row. Hang in there
Gonna try and get me a kayak before spring.hope that makes a difference.
I've been seriously crappie fishing for about 6 years now and still have much to learn. Some days are good and some days are bust - you just have to stay at it. And ask questions - on the water, at the dock or just in passing; ask questions. Most everyone will share knowledge with you to put you on the right track. I used to fly fish for trout exclusively, and it's by far easier to catch a limit of trout than it is crappie. Just keep reading, keep asking......and fish.
May be the time of year.ive only fished spring for crappie.im just impatient.
The important part, you had fun.
Don't give up it takes a long time to get good at this. Everyone has to start somewhere. I was fortunate to have a father that was a good fishermen and outdoorsman. Not everyone has this so go with good fishermen when you can, lots of guys on here will take you if you're willing to drive and learn. I'm done till spring but give me a pm around March or April and I would be glad to help you.

Thanks my friend.i just keep hearing places they are catching them then I go and have no luck. Lol
Ive been crappie fishing for over 40 years, still have good days and bad days! anyone tells you they don't are only fooling themselves:)
Stay after them! I've had days where I couldn't buy a Crappie or get one with a hand grenade, then pull a dozen off the next laydown. We wouldn't be obsessed and addicted if it were easy.
When I started seriously crappie fishing, I was a bass tournament convert. What I did not pay enough attention to was how important it was to go to light line. When jig fishing, I never use anything heavier than 4 lb test. I see this all the time with folks that fish multiple species, they never down size for the crappie. They are just as finicky about line size as trout are!!
Bob, what is your favorite 4 lb test line? I am currently using the Mr. Crappie 6 lb but had thought about trying some 4 lb.
I can tell you this, 4 pound zebco line is actually more like 1 pound. I bought it because it was available and cheap. Yesterday, forgot my net and lost several fish trying to lip them. Didn't take much - just a little head shake. I think I detected a smile from them when they broke off.
Well I'm on my way now to give it a try.already been to my favorite spot and it's covered up.i just got tired of sitting at home so thought I'd get out a while.
Dont give up crappie are a crazy fish i have been on them catching them one after another then it was like someone flipped a switch and that was it.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.
You sure told the truth there.:fish
