Does anyone here have the Lowrance Hook-7. If you do, how do you like it.
I have a hook 7 at the TM and an elite 7 TI on the dash. I've had them for 7 months and just getting to really understand what I'm seeing. They both work well for the way I fish. Primarily trolling cranks.
Following this thread. I picked up the hook 7 on Black Friday for a heck of a deal. I was looking at the 5 but this was actually cheaper and came with the map software and a sun cover. Bonus! I won a fun little recurve as part of their Black Friday stuff. Can't beat deals and free stuff.

Good to hear that both of you have one. I just went to Academy and got one also. I found a deal with them on the internet for just a couple of days. The store wasn't aware of it but they honored the printout that I brought in. Glad that I did. Mine had the map soft ware, not sure about the cover until I open it up.
I like mine. Santa brought it last year. A learning curve for sure
Gcromer when u open it up, and get the map card out of its little case, and u open up the door on the graph to insert the card, that map card will be too big, there is another map card inside of the 1 that's too big. Have I confused u yet, my dad just installed his today and went to put the card in and was way too big,,called cabellas and guy said use ur finger nail and u can open it up and get to the right card, looked be same card out of his elite 5.
It is a microchip. Why they would go to such a small chip when you might be changing it on the water with cold hands is beyond me. They will also blow out if you leave one accidentally on the deck.
HD3, thanks, I'll watch for that. I've got to find a Lowrance 10978-001mount so that I can put that skimmer on my trolling motor. I'll shop around here in town before I order one off line. Since that's where fish, I want to see that information. I'm leaving my other DF on the console, which I use mostly while running from point to point.
Ray, with it being small, I'll drop it for sure.
The outfit that makes the pop up mount I have on my transom also makes a good TM mount for transducers. Transducer Shield and Saver | See More Fish, Catch More Fish
I have Lowrance 3x elites I hate em just worthless. I may go with Hummingbird when I upgrade. My Lowrances don't work right half the time
no need to blast Lowrance, they have quality products just like Humminbird and all the others. more than likely, operator error.
I think it's more of an installation problem I need to look at them
I still do not like the particular fishfinder I'm going to upgrade
oh BTW I still say the Lowrance 3x is junk
Thanks Ray, I've been on the phone with them a couple times today and 3 e-mails with pictures. I'll say one thing, that they are real proud of their product.
Scepseslayer, If you tell these guy your problem with what you have, they may can help you with it. There are some real knowledgeable people on this group. And I'm not one of them. Lowrance hasn't been able to stay in business this long making junk. I've used their product since they made the old paper chart recorders and I have always had good products and service from them.
thanks Gc I know it's a $100 fish finder. I have the transducer where it's supposed to be. When I'm in I know at 40 ft depth, the console will read 2236 ft or something crazy. I admit, I don't have much experience with fishfinders. But I've never even seen an arch on them.
I just should upgrade before Spring. It doesn't make sense to have $100 units on a $25k boat. It's what the boat came with and I didn't know any better or I would have negotiated an upgrade lol

Just a couple of comments and a question or two.
I see from you earlier post that you've had the boat about a year now. Has it always malfunctioned since new? If it has, had you though about ever taking it back to the dealer that you bought the boat from. Is it reading this crazy footage depth when you setting still or while you're running along. If it's while you are still, that has to be fixed before you'll ever be able to start looking for fish. It could be a bad transducer that maybe someone dropped while it was being put on the boat, a pinched cable from it or even the main unit too. These are rather simple units to use and here is a small video that shows that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1NZGuP0Pbc That unit far out ways what I started out with years ago when the screen units first came on the market. what I started with left a lot on the table, but they worked.
Have you tried the unit in the Demo mode. Does it work in that mode. If it does I would think that it's in the transducer or cable. If it's not working in that mode, I'd think the unit. If you're trying to read the depth while you're running along that surely can be a problem when where and how the transducer is mounted and that can be a challenge some times. If you expect to see fish while you're running along, I'm not sure that you're ever going to see that unless you're going real slow in some deep water. have you tried to talk to the service department at Lowrance?
One last thing is that the more expensive units have a lot more bells and whistles that what you have now and the learning curve is going to be more than what you have now. I'm replacing a unit that I put on my boat when I bought it back in 2001, it's black and white and cost $300 back then. It has served me well and I am able to see, I think everything below me and know what I'm seeing too. It did take a while to get the transducer adjusted on the boat to see the bottom at 35 MPH but I did and that all I'm interested in at that speed. I know that I'm going to have to go through a new learning curve myself with my new unit.
I don't mean to muddy the water with your problem, but being a retired Broadcast Engineer, I always feel that there has to be an answer to a problem like you're having. The basic concept is still the same as with the early flasher depth finders, it's now how they process the information now. A signal is transmitted down and the receiver hears the signal bounces back and processes it. I have an ole saying " One Test Is Worth a Thousand Opinions. I wish you the best of luck working this out.
wow thank you Gerald .It hasn't worked right since I bought the boat from a local dealer in Columbia. it does work on demo mode. I have one on my tm and in the console.
For the longest I thought it was all me not knowing how to use one. I watched all the videos on how to read a fishfinder and have never seen arches or anything on mine. The depth wasn't even working right as I catfish a lot too and know how deep a lot of my spots are.
I wonder if I should call the dealer and even they'd even help me. I bought the boat, a Ranger RT188, last October.
Thank you very much for taking the time to help.
