Wouldn't hurt.
I run 2 batteries :
Series 24 - starts 90hp outboard motor, runs console gauges, all pumps, & a HB 2d depthfinder
Series 29 - runs 42# thrust trolling motor & Lowrance Elite 5DSI
Series 24 battery is usually still at full charge after a day of starting & running & putting the boat back on the trailer.
Series 29 battery hasn't been tested for duration under speed. It's a recent replacement for the Series 27 battery that I had/used for the last 4yrs. It was replaced because 6hrs of heavy use and the depth finder would dim out or quit.
I also have a 3rd battery, another Series 29 battery, as a backup or can be connected in parallel to the other Series 29 for jig/crank pushing (if needed). Both Series 29 batteries are same size & manufactured within 8 months of each other.
I run 5: 1 cranking, dash gauges, pumps; 1 electronics, 360, ethernet, ect; 3 for the Terrova 112.
Having a dedicated electronics batt is a very good idea, specially when you running a 1199, 1198, 360, ethernet box and radio.
thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to do it. Just need to decide what I want to put the pumps and guages on. Probably go with my cranking battery. Then I can jump it if I ever need to.
I run two batteries.
One for all electronics, pumps, lights, stereo, 12v fillet knife, charging phones/GoPro, mino-mizer, other 12v accessories, and starting main motor. Group 29 battery and has never let me down.
One for trolling motor only. Although by next season I will upgrade trolling motors from a 55pd 12v to a 80pd 24v and will require another trolling motor battery. 31 battery. Only let me down once, although it wasn't the batteries fault. My charger died while in Canada. MinnKota took care of the charger promptly.
Do you pull your batteries and bring them in the house in the winter. From what I have read heat not cold is what damages batteries?
I run 3, 2 for troll motor and one for starting and depth/fish finders. I use 3 depth finders and have no problem with the starting battery. I also fish year around so no winterizing.
I run 4 batteries ... because I can ... TOO!
4 group 29's
Neither will really hurt them....IF you keep them at full charge. At 80 degrees a battery loses about 15% of its charge in a month. Spending time at less than full charge will kill a battery. A fully charged battery freezes around -90 degrees F, so not normally an issue.
I don't want to leave them on the charger but would prefer to top them off once a month?
You got that right !! Left my starting battery in boat for less than 2 weeks and somehow forgot to turn off my little 2d depth finder. Took boat out and motor started OK, then idled about 500yds and tied up for some night fishing. When it came time to leave (7hrs later) the battery wouldn't turn the 90 Merc over. Got out my jumper cable and hooked it to the TM battery & start battery ... and started the motor, idled back to the ramp & trailered the boat. Charged the start battery back up and used it a couple of weeks later .. and it fired right up like normal.
You wouldn't think that something that only draws a couple hundred micro amps per hour would drain a battery ... until you do the math and realize two weeks is 336 hours of continuous draw.
What do you guys think of these connectors.

My trolling motor is on my kayak and I want something that will let the battery come free if it tips over.
Should work just fine. I would try to attach the battery side to something on the boat that is solid. Connector not going to come apart as easy as it seems it would.
