2nd Surgery
The human mind is a very powerful source. Today is my 2nd surgery on my left ear. Ever since returning from Mississippi, my mind has been rolling in different thoughts and concerns. My gut is telling me something also.
Either way you say it, yep I'm nervous. Littlemama will be driving us down to Vanderbilt, suppose to be there by 11:00, the surgery is suppose to be at 1:00 PM.
Keep us in your thoughts today, and hope everything goes according to plan.
Keep an eye on the feeshes while I am out of commission. I will be itchin' to rip some lips in several weeks! Keep posting up the pictures, it helps fight off the shakes sometimes![emoji12]

Thank you gentlemen, very much appreciated. Very long day yesterday getting home about 8:30 last night. The doctors did a fantastic job of controlling my temperature coming out of surgery, and the recovery. It was concerning me some since the last surgery.
They loaded me up on pain meds starting with before surgery and in recovery. I was feeling pretty good yesterday late afternoon. Now, I didn't sleep well and got up at my normal time. Pains are just beginning to crank up, so we will see how things are later today.
Doc said that everything went just as planned, it took him a little longer since he is right handed and it was my left side. Balance is off which was expected. It feels weird not having any hearing aids in at all.
Now, the only thing I remember in recovery is littlemama getting me ready to go home. So, Dean had called last night while we were driving home. And littlemama tells this story that while in recovery I was talking about heading to Lake Washington next week to fish. Then, all of sudden I leaned up in the bed and reached out to set the hook on a rod! She said she and the nurses were rolling! And I think Dean was too when he heard it. Gotta have your priorities in order.......

Great story. Glad things went well. Praying for a continued and speedy recovery.
Gonna have to change your user name to "Hook Set".

Praying for healing. God bless. Set the hook!!

I know what will cure this pain in my head right now........
Didn't sleep well Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, but did get some sound sleep last night. Probably cause I finally ran out of steam. The appetite hasn't been affected too badly this time around. Just like any injury or surgery, you have moments of harsh discomfort and bliss. I am very much still swollen internally, and can not hear anything on my left side. The twitches started up saturday, and the steady throbs began last night. First surgery it took 8 days before it popped.
I praise the man upstairs for my wife, with the patience of a 1,000 saints, who takes excellent care of this ole grumpy patient. I couldn't do it without her!
Overall, I'm gonna make it. As long as the left side turns out like the right, this will have been a huge success, a 2nd chance and a blessing all wrapped up together. Don't catch all the feeshes, save a few for seed. I will be back at it before too long. The feeshes think I am off the water for duck season, they have another thing coming before too long.
Rip some lips,
Brian

Haven't been on here in a while. I am glad to hear it went well hope to see you soon.

Hope you continue to recover and get back out on the water. Gives you something to look forward to. I always said, the best thing about being sick is it makes you appreciate how good it feels to be normal again without any aches or pains. You're on your way to getting there. Best!

Just seeing this, hope it's getting better.

Ear is beginning to pop, and I am hearing some out of that left side! Continue to take it day by day, and hopefully everything will fall into place.
Thank you for all of the prayers, thoughts and kind words of encouragement.

I am afraid that my last update was the only time that I have heard any sound or sensation in my left ear.
On Tuesday December 6th we will be traveling to Vanderbilt for my 3 week check up with my doctor. I am preparing myself for the possibility of loosing my left side. It could be that the Internal packing is much more dense than the first surgery. My body may not be absorbing it supposedly that is the way it is intended. My right ear did not absorb it but I began hearing on day 8, where it's day 17 now with only one sliver of noise last Sunday.
As I told littlemama, it won't kill me, won't be in a wheelchair, still can walk, and can hold and protect her, but we will have to adjust to the loss.
I will keep you guys informed after the doctors appointment. Again, thank you for the support, thoughts and prayers.

The check up did not go very well this afternoon. The left side surgery did not take, and Dr Labadie believes that the titanium piston has come off of my hearing bone, and is the reason I have not been able to hear anything. He said that the crimping ring is at fault.
They then sent me to the imaging center for an emergency CT scan, and if the assumption is correct, he is going to have to go back in and repair what needs to be fixed. The surgery is currently scheduled for December 15th.
The hearing test shows the bone test results as the same from before. So, I have not lost the ability to hear, but without that piston hanging down into the footplate hole, my left side is dead in the water.
My doctor will review these scan results and call tomorrow. Please say a prayer, I am a little spooked and shaken right now. A lot of what if's and questions, concerns, and just having to go through all of this again.

Praying for you Brian. Can't imagine the stress for you right now.

Stressed to the max today. I have come to realize that dealing with doctors and doctors offices is equal to or worse than herding cats!!
3rd surgery will be next Thursday December 15th at 3pm. Good news is that I got permission to eat breakfast that morning, but nothing after 7am. Going to be a bear by 3pm with nothing to eat!

I understand better than most having had 5 heart surgeries (4 within 3 months). I will say it does get better after a while. The hardest part for me was staying positive. Focus on the good things that happen. I will be praying for you and your family as well as those who will be caring for you.
