I've been fishing the creeks in Markland Pool pretty heavily too. Some nice ones but last few times they have been smaller on average than I would typically be catching this time of year.
Last 2 times one, the biggest ones I have have caught shallow. I plan to fish quite a bit over the next 6 weeks. It's definitely one of my favorite times of year to fish.
Any water temps this week?
Where do you guys launch on the river?
46 am---56 pm
fish @ 2--8 ft

Fished yesterday had a hell of a good day. I saw temps from 56-49 gets colder as you work up the creek. I caught all fish 7' deep and deeper. Not saying they werent shallow i just couldnt find em shallow
In meldahl pool you have the park just above meldahl damn. Really nice ramp. Next one up river is at bullskin creek. Next one that can be used NOW since all the corps engineer ramps closed is ripley ohio public ramp. From there you have aberdeen ramp. Those are all the ramps on the ohio side. Only one in ky i know of which is a very nice ramp is in augusta ky. You gotta trek a loooooong ways to the next one up river on ky side which would be maysville boat ramp
There is a ramp in Dover not great but usable by Lawrence creek, ky side
I went yesterday. N.KY creek in Markland pool. Lots of fisherman for it being pretty darn cold. I did pretty good. Caught 30-40 but lots of short fish. I could have had a mess but I didn't feel like cleaning them. Probably 10 or so at or over 10" and largest was 12". No real big ones though.
Earlier in the day, I was catching the nicer ones further up the creek and shallow. < 6'. By mid afternoon, I was catching the nicer ones in 10' of water on brush. I'm looking forward to getting back out quite a bit in December. Hopefully with some trophies.
Water temps were 48 - 49. Bite was slow.
I am beginning to wonder if fishing is over for the year. Last couple of years, I've been able to fish into the new year but it got cold quick this year. I'm thinking of going Saturday maybe. High around 50 but also a chance of rain and high winds. I wonder if the creeks will be iced up by then.
I saw a little slush on some shallow ponds today but all the creeks I saw had running water in them. I hope this cold goes away for at least another month.
No ice on any creeks up this way.
I got out yesterday for about 2.5 hours.
I had to break through thin ice at the ramp but it wasn't an issue. Water temps were a chilly 37-38 in the creek. The wind and rain died off for the 1st 2 hours and it was nice. It started raining pretty good around 4pm so I quit.
They were deep. I did just ok. Caught about a dozen that averaged around 9.75-10. No real nice ones unfortunately.
I'm a jig fisherman and haven't used a minnow in quite some time but my dad caught bigger and better fish last time out with minnows and I think I would have yesterday too with water temps so cold.
mbk
Nice report. I wonder if that warm rain we had improved the water temps any?
I hope so. I am hoping to get out Friday. Expecting maybe some thin ice at the dock but that's about it. It's getting a bit warmer and I'm not ready to quit fishing yet!
If you venture out into the Meldahl pool be careful. River is up & lots of big drift going down river.
Got out today for about 3.5 hours and got my butt kicked. Caught 3 in all that time. Water was pretty muddy in the creeks (Markland pool), current was moving pretty good, and water temps were between 35-37. Had to break ice at the ramp.
Not ideal fishing conditions in warmer weather but just couldn't find them or get them to bite. I may be done for the year, or I may decide to go back for more punishment next week. :)
Went again yesterday for a couple hours. Did very poorly. River creeks are in terrible shape right now. Worst I've seen all of 2016. A bit high but extremely muddy and lots of debris. Water has warmed a few degrees but I think it's going to take a fairly dry week for it to get back to normal.
Ugly up river too.
Well my shoulder is finally getting better. Still doing therapy at home. Definitely stronger but still aches. Gosh this has been a hard one for recovery. My final therapist session said another 2-4 months for full recovery, including therapy rest of my life. Getting old isn't fun!! Lol!!

So how long has this been going on? When did you have you surgery.
I've been seriously thinking of having my shoulder worked on but I don't want to be laid up for six months.
You been out fishing any cmax? I'm starting my winter withdrawl. I haven't been out since November.
Yeah, I've been out almost once a week, not killing them but getting a few. I haven't made it out this week but it's not the cold, I was out Muzzleloader season Sat & Monday plus I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel. I was finally starting to do the tile work today and the electric went out. I take that as an omen that I should have went out fishing or hunting...the Gods are angry at me.
I hope everything doesn't flood from all this rain we're going to have this week. My wife on the other hand is hoping everything floods or freezes so I finish this project up.
My left shoulder is killing me but from the sounds of Bassky's ordeal I don't think I can handle that long of a recovery.
hope u both get well ..cmax that is the longest bathroom remodel ever:yikes
It's become a marathon, 7 weeks so far and I bet I have 2/3 more weeks before I get it done just way to many delays. Once the master bath is functioning I'm going to gut the other bath, that's the last room in the house to do. All this house remodeling stuff is going to end this winter.
you and harry's partner need to get together, I hear he's a wiz at bathroom remodels
Crappiemax,
Surgery sept 30. Getting better stronger, but still another 2 months maybe more. My shoulder was a mess. 3 anchors to attach rotator cuff and tore labrum, open procedure. Exercise everyday with stretching, 3 days week dumbells. Taking protein supplements, vitamins and minerals seem to Be getting muscle mass back...slow process.
I had my left shoulder rotator cuff surgery 10 years ago and was totally healed in 6 weeks. The right one was a mess according to surgeon, going on 4 weeks.
6 weeks isn't bad, I'll see how it feels in the summer.
Goin on 4 months, not weeks
My bad...I read the last response of 6 weeks from 10 years ago. I later read the 1st response and figured it was more like 4 months. That's a long, long time.
My daughter had her shoulder operated on a couple months ago and she is doing great, rotator cuff & labrum like yours but you heal much quicker at 37 than you do in you 60's.
I'm tired of my shoulder aching all the time but I don't want to be out of commission for 4/5 months, that's too long.
My step dad needed shoulder surgery and refused to get it done and now he can't use his right arm. I have had 2 surgeries on my left shoulder and now I think I'm going to have to get the right one fixed. Dreading it because it does take anywhere from 4 to 6 month's and if you don't continue to do therapy at home your shoulder will start aching again.
