Cotaco Creek, 12 Nov 16...another great day

Today was another great day...and it wasn't all about fishing or catching.
First, I had the pleasure of spending some on-water fellowship with YaBoyMaxWeezy. Thanks for the bait...I found an unopened bag later in my stash. It's called BG Devil's Grin. I caught two with it.
Second: I stopped fishing around 1000-ish and decided I would just explore well south of Sharps Ford Road bridge. I boated a bit short of the lost bridge. What a beautiful section of Cotaco Creek. I think I saw more kingfisher birds ever. Fished a bit more after my exploring.
Now for the fishing. Started around 0630. Fishing wasn't like the last trip but it is always great being on the water. Water temp was 65-66 degrees. Clarity was about 1-2 feet. Indian Creek has clearer water. Still no current, And, the creek is about as low as I have ever seen it. Had an even catch of keepers and shorts. Gave away a total of ten 11-12 inch fish to several different folks...maybe a few 10 incher's. Rest were 8 inchers or less...certainly all released. Total: 20. Big fish was 12 inches and 14oz. Just another great day. Sorry if the pics are sideways again.

Good job Spaceman. I had been wondering what area of Cotaco you fish.

I fish mostly between the river and Sharps Ford Rd bridge. I do fish south of the bridge. I will often go quite a distance beyond Grendel Hole. Just wanted to be adventerous and go miles south of the bridge today. And, was pleased.

By the way, how deep is the creek around lost bridge? I've been thinking of putting in at Hwy 36 and working South from there.

Not sure about the portion between Hwy 36 and lost bridge, but I imagine it is perfectly suitable for a kayak. It's not too far from hwy 36 to lost bridge. The entire creek I traveled today was 10ft or greater...and remember this is very low pool. I did find some holes greater than 17ft. There is a section beyond Grendel Hole that stretches about 1.5-2 miles of solid laydowns. One could spend a lifetime fishing them all. Then there are some slate rock formations and fewer laydowns. I had to carefully meander around/through a few laydowns. Wouldn't mind kayaking or canoeing Hwy 36 to the river one day. Very quite, peaceful, nice stretch of the creek.

DB you can put in there but you will have to deal with a lot of fallen logs and trees I have put in with a 10 foot Jon boat and it was rough

I'm hoping for some water a little less traveled. I've been told it's thick with laydowns upstream of Hwy 36, sounds like kayak water to me.

DB: Lots of folks near the river today. Not a sole for miles where I went. I'll fish it next time.

Way back up Cotaco was where one of the big bass tournaments was won if I remember right. I would figure that area has seen a lot of action lately.

Yes. FLW winner fished this area daily.

Fished cotaco on Thursday. Finished with maybe 20, but almost all were dinks. Water temp was 66-68, caught almost all fish on some gold glitter and creme colored BG....I have never caught a single fish on this color in my life until this past week.

Fished cotaco again on Saturday and caught maybe 25, with 15 keepers and Spaceman gave us a couple. The best color was a red and white color jig...again, never caught a fish on this color until Saturday. Water temp was 65-66.

All fish came casting 5-10 ft off the laydowns and also fishing some underwater structure.

Had a great time running into Spaceman again!
