I guess I' m as guilty as anyone. When i found this forum it sure was lively. Has Facebook ruined it ? Where did everyone go ? Come on lets see if we can revive this place.

I agree,
Hmmm...carrying tight-lipped to the extreme...
For me it seems like allot of lurkers with few giving reports. Post a report and see a couple of hundred have read it with maybe a couple of responses, and if you post any real details you find your favorite fishing spot has lots of new boats there. I still post some reports with general information on baits and depth, enough to give someone an idea but leave locations out. I'll gladly PM anyone more info but not put too much out there all the lurkers. Really used to enjoy the VA board but it sure has died I believe due to the reasons I listed above.
I'll be glad to post a report as soon as I get a trip worth reporting.
I doubt I'm the only one who feels that way, at least in my area the last few months ha been very depressing with weather that has been really bad for fishing. Hopefully as the weather stabilizes and people start catching fish again the reports will resume.
I need to fish.
I have to respond the the same sorry excuse, NOT ENOUGH TIME TO FISH. Being new to the site, I also will admit to being a lurker, but no fears to all as my home lake is still semi-private for the time being. Not for long though as a new public ramp seems to be in the future. Any-body out there fishing Whitehurst?
Sorry guys I have been in dry dock. I went on at outing with my step son On Fathers Day, when I went to put the boat back on the trailer pulled out and my trailer had broke in half. Rust had got at her. So I have spent every bit of time doing a ground up restoration of a 1988 trailer. I was up on Morris Creek last Sunday with poor results. Back out on the 24 and hauled water. As far as our fellow members goes, I think we go through times that just keep us so busy, kids, work, summer. If I don't have a fair report then I don't post.
Just a PS I do think also that some of us are in different parts of this board. I for one have been hanging out in the jig tying forum. I started tying my own jigs.
A lot of us lurkers have no boat or nobody to fish with. Hard to steal your spots under those conditions unless you can make a hell of long cast. Just blame it on folks that look but don't even fish.
I been fishing, all I can. Crappie seem to have moved down my priority list. Brown bass and river monsters have taken over. When the river gets muddy been chasing some green fish. Lost a huge crappie last week and caught a good mess but they hit baits targeting bass. I agree with Roy, when i posted a good report, i saw increase in fishermen i never saw before. I'll try to do better about posting. Hope some of yall can do the same.
At this time I don't have a boat so I haven't been fishing.Probably be a while before I get another boat, maybe next summer or so.
I took the summer off to pursue other activities. Time to fish during winter. I will fish soon, and post reports with fine details like depth, bait of choice and what state I fished in... :-)
I am so new to this group that I can't say how lively it has ever been. For me, the stripers have been running these past 3 weeks down my way. I'll stay on them until they move south. Then it will be back on the Chick for some winter crappie fishing.
The seven years prior to my wife dying (unexpectedly from an aortic dissection) I was averaging fishing 68 times a year, pretty muched fished every single weekend and posted a report every time. The first year after her death I went out 45 times but then only 28 times the following year and only 17 times so far this year. Been busy chasing my girlfriend and not really a whole lot to report. The two years prior to my wife's death I averaged 49 crappie per trip, then 21, 13, and 20 this year. I lost a lot of enthusiasm for fishing and posting with her death but it seems to be coming back albeit very slowly.
Agree with Roy ,Tap out don't no the last time you went to Buggs but a lot bp's have been rebrushed in your favorite area of the lake. Guess tournament fishing has sealed alot of lips, gotea be that way.
Fished Sandy today, shoud have stayed home. Very windy and no bite. Caught just 5 all day. Today was my 90th day of fishing this year. I'll break 100, im off every Thursday and Friday in December. Going again tomortow.
according to the city engineer and the local civic league, the new ramp will be at the end of Hewitt and Shore Dr. The site was being used by Va. power as a staging area for the power line replacement and now is open. We have been told construction is scheduled for the spring of 17'. Hope fully the state will start the re stocking program again. Any way I am new to the lake and the learning curve is excruciating! Nothing worth posting YET!
Looks like the the corner of Shore Dr. and Hewitt
Not enough time to fish ? After a heart attack at 50, i found enough time. I'm on the back nine of life now and I'm gonna fish. Life is too short. Find something you love to do and then do it until you're tired of it. When you're 25 60 seems a long way off. Blink and then 60 is behind you. Got a new boat last November and I hope I can wear it out. Plan to retire in about 2 more and then fish some more.
still fishing 200+ days a year. so many fish so little time...
My daughter is 10 months old now, but will continue to occupy most of my weekend time for the foreseeable future (not that this is a bad thing). I am working shift work now and will have some 5 day stretches from time to time and am hoping to fill them with fishing trips when I can.
I will second what was said about being cautious about writing reports of a hot bite. I have learned a lot from this site and enjoy hearing and sharing success, but it seems a little boastful sometimes to make a stellar report, and i cant say i know any of you well enough yet to not be grumpy if you are sitting on my spot because i felt the need to show off my slabs.
Went to buggs last weekend and caught 20 with only 8 keepers on brush 20 fow. In the graasy crk area. Blue ice jig and minnows. Went to swift creek after work during the week and caught 15 with 4 keepers to 12" all on jigs trilling and cast in 6 -9 fow. Been guilty of using more fb to post. Va crappie. Just getting back into crappie fishing again since its getting cold. Just been hitting my honey hole pond lately. More reports to come.
Some of you know what's been up with me. 2 years rebuilding my boat. Soon to be done. But house flooded from Mathew. Lost most of what I have spent my entire life working for. Son and daughter having troubles too at the same time of no fault of their own. Trying to finish my crops too. Sleeping on the floor on my second story right now until daughter gets in new apartment in Greenville. I wish I had time to fish. I would go in a heartbeat. I have learned to appreciate some things that I didn't before. Also devastated by things that I did appreciate but no longer have. Will post some reports when I get back on my feet.CF
Back and knee issues make it impossible for me to sit in the boat for more than hour, back surgery this winter, knees as soon as recovery from back surgery. Looks like a real fun year coming up. January 2018 you're going down Farmer!:biggrin
I agree whole heartedly that "life" happens. Heck I've lived in 3 states since the board was really hopping and swining back in 2008-2009.
But since no one else is gonna say it, I'll say it:
The board ain't been the same since all the drama with Horseshoer. Half the posters left the forum, Shoer fell victim to his demons, etc.
I mean think back to that time.....
Shoer was posting daily posts about shoreline fishing Diascund and cabbage patch dolls in his garden
Slabenomics was posting weekly posts about great James River slabbage
Roy was posting daily posts pulling that jonboat behind the minivan over to Fort Pickett, always with the faithful train conductor's hat.
I was posting weekly reports on the James, Chick, Harrison Lake, etc
Dayton was posting tons of great pics and videos of his kids growing up fishing
Dayton's friend (I can't remember his name, something like SeaNymph or something? kinda large guy with a real family friendly attitude) was posting good James River pics
Panman was around being one of the nicest human beings on earth
Tap was SLAYING crappie at Western Branch on a weekly basis!!
BillReedy (sp?) was posting pics of him wearing polo shirts fishing with his two young teenaged boys fishing up on the Appomattox in Colonial Heights
There were numerous others, most who's names escape me now. To this day, those were some of the favorite years of my life, I'm not exaggerating.
I went into my private messages and saw many old outdated PM's from guys like Shoer, Redy2Fish, Dayton, etc. It's a shame how it ended with Shoer b/c he was such a charismatic funny person.
I think you are referring to Richard, aka "Corker" with the train conductors hat. Roy tends to wear the most ugliest green and yellow hat you ever laid eyes on, something to do with being a cheese head. :biggrin
Lol, lots of good memories in that post. Tap I know you can't be referring to my beautiful Green Bay Packer hat, you must have been looking in the mirror at that bumble bee color hat , lol.
Sandy River again today. 22 crappie, small ones. Vertical jigging silver buddies. Fun day with a grandson.
Nice going, glad you had the grandson with you.
While the number of posts has dwindled over the years, this site is still a nice site to enjoy. I'm doing a little something to make this site a little more enjoyable. Dec this year, for the 4th year in a row, ill be hosting a bash on the chic river/lake. The only expense to you will be paying a ramp fee. 1st,2nd and 3rd place prizes. Big fish pot optional. Giveaways. Last year 20 people participated. Lets have some fun.
I do remember George, Panman, Shoer, reelfun, JD, and a lot of others fishing reports. Some have moved on to other places , life has a way of getting in the way of our fishing. I do like to read others posts especially when I have to work, boat is in dry dock. But I feel that if I have nothing worth telling about then I am quiet. Lot of you folks can get out so many days to fish and do catch a large amount, that puts my few fish (usually dinks) to shame. I guess I am embarrassed to make a post with a poor catch. Like some that catch a hundred fish a day, but lets here from the folks that only catch two or three 10 inch. Maybe then some of us that only catch a few small ones are not so shy to post. I will say that this site is the best, most friendly, tip sharing, site on the net. Just go to any other site, or even a tournament and try to get any information form folks. Its that information that's helps me catch 14 inch crappie. A fellow on this board showed myself and my special needs step son how to shoot a dock, let him reel in fish after fish. I can't put a price on that day that he gave up for us. To all of you folks, its your posts, help that makes us all better fishermen and women.
