If up to 2# bluegills are big enough, then there's a place in west Alabama that is fantastic fishing. I can only take one person with me when I go, though.
Lake Perris in California is world renowned for giant copper nose bluegill. It is a public lake. Also Lake Havasu has giant shell cracker......red ear.
Regards
Send me a pm and we will go catch em. I work weekends.
I bet yawl got some spots right in your area with toad bream ......you are located in a great place for big bream ....ask the local folks , I bet someone has a spot for them
Hey BluegillHunter I sent you a P.M.
Some of those 2#ers would be nice to hook into!
Merrits Mill pond in north Florida has some stud Shellcrackers in it. There is another plantation in north Florida as well but the name escapes me right now. If I can find it I will check back.
Got it, Bienville Plantation. Had to call a buddy that told me about it. Managed for trophy bass but has some stud bream in it.
Just be warned, Bienville Plantation is PROUD of their place $$$$$$$$$$$
A lot of these "pay to fish" places are. Richmond Mill Lake in NC has gotten a lot of press, and you can fish it for just $600 a day!
Packages and Pricing at The King Fisher Society
Callaway Gardens here in GA was excellent for big gills, but I've heard it has gone down hill. (I haven't fished it in years.)
That's a party of 4 fishermen for $600 each. $2400 total per day. WOW
Wow that would cost me 3k I have 5 people in my family that will be fishing!
You could book a trip to Lake Havasu - Havasu City has rentals, hotels, casinos & guides.
Previously mentioned Lake Perris, Lake Skinner, (haven't fished yet - been closed for 7 years) San Vicente are public lakes with pretty good panfish.....
When I was a kid, my dad got us invited to on a blue gill trip near Evergreen, Alabama. There were about five boats IIRC and we caught literally hundreds. And several of those were darn big (2-3 lbs). I can't remember who owned the place. but I'll ask dad - if for nothing else maybe I can get back over there. It was a big pond -probably 75 acres and had a usable ramp.
The St. Johns river from Astor to about Green Cove springs area has some fine Copperheads and Shellcrackers as well. Harris Chain in Leesburg has some stud shellcrackers too. Thats where that Mays feller on youtube is fishing. Just around the bend from Slabs house.
Not sure if you consider these giants - they were caught this spring at Lake Perris. Just did a post with some of the better fish caught in the last 3 weeks at Lake Perris.

Show offs :)
As I mentioned about those two lakes earlier in the post. Those two are the "Gold Standard" for bluegill in public waters. There are a lot of places one can pay big bucks to catch bluegill like in Lake Perris....Richmond Mill is one of them....but as mentioned earlier you will pay through the nose to fish there...and they are spoon fed several times a day. But there is no other shell cracker fishery like Lake Havasu....if there is one could someone please let me know....LOL.

Any body have any good places in upstate ny?? I know you're sayin ny? I do catch a few at 9"+ but just once in a while. I fish from decent 16' boat but small waters for kayak fishin would be awesome....thanks in advance

The Lake Havasu fish are hardly touched and the lake is HUGE! Not only are the RE monsters - the hybrid BGRE are getting there too. The last 2 world records that came out of there were in the north part of the lake. We fish the south part and have found RE up 4lb9oz. I fish 2lb test and have been smoked 3 times on this lake...
I keep a boat at LP - close to home. LP is a lot smaller and it gets pounded pretty good - mostly for bass. Jet skis and ski boats can be a real headache in the warmer season. Got some pretty good crappie too - no one fishes for them.
You will probably see some very large fish come out of San Vicente soon. I need to get down there - for the spring bite for sure.
I need to get on those lake havasu Redear as soon as possible. Lol

There's world-class bluegill fishing in west Alabama. I fish for them every week... you can too.
I'm loving this thread.
BluegillHunter,
What water in west Alabama are you talking about? Any GPS coordinates you want to share?
I think if you electroshocked your favorite bluegill water, you'd be amazed at the big gills that turn up. They spend most of their lives in deeper water and die of old age without ever seeing a hook.
The only way to get this info is to go fishing with me. It's private fishing... not public. But, it's a bass and bluegill paradise. (or I would be going somewhere else).
I must say... fishing is fishing, some days they chase down a lure, and other days its slower. Overall, it's real good or I would head to a better place.
A local private lake that I fish just stocked some Georgia Giants. Can't wait to get one of those on. Otherwise mostly small to medium around here.
